| Says she'll get hungry, eat something, then feel even more nauseous. Hakf the time she skips breakfast and lunch. Maybe smaller meals more frequently rather than three bigger meals? Ginger tea in the morning? Any other ideas? |
| She needs an appointment with her pediatrician or family internist. |
| How old is she OP? She's not pregnant is she? |
|
She needs to see a doctor. It could be anything, including anxiety. Skipping meals because of stomach issues is not normal. Nor is it normal to have a major change in her digestive system.
|
|
Is she taking any antibiotics for acne? I did several rounds in HS and as constantly neauseaus. It took months for me to figure out that the instructions I was throwing away said take with food...
And possibly a pregnancy test might be needed. |
| And she may have post nasal drip. If it's draining into her stomach all night, she's going to wake up nauseous. A nightly anti histimaine might be needed. |
|
Not much info here... how long has this been going on? Any other symptoms? This could be anything from a mild illness that needs to run its course to anxiety, an eating disorder, or pregnancy.
If it's been going on long enough that you're worried, take her to the doc. |
|
How long has this been going on? Did she have a virus within the last month or two before it began? Symptoms you describe can present as a post-viral syndrome, sometimes post-bacterial infection.
Doctors prescribe Zofran like candy, and most people find it pretty effective. My DD has gastroparesis--very severe. Recommendations for diet are low fat and low fiber. As many as eight meals a day, bearing in mind a meal may consist of three saltines, which should become your best friend along with ginger ale (points if she'll drink the more organic type with real ginger). Ginger tea of course recommended, but my DD couldn't stand. Beef and chicken broths are a good way to get some protein. Chicken noodle and some other soups are also good. Ensure type products are also recommended if she can stand the taste. Also, my DD has said that sourdough bread from Panera is almost as effective as Zofran. |
| ^^PS Assuming she is not pregnant, now is not the time to fuss about clean eating. She needs calories. Whole wheat anything is bad, white wheat refined as much as possible is good. Many vegetables are out because they have too much fiber; same with many fruits. You have to turn whatever you know about nutrition upside down. |
That was,me until diagnosed in late 20's. |
| It could be a lot of things. I'd see a doctor, ask for a celiac panel and other tests. |
| Could be gastritis too (easily fixable with omeprazole or one of the many acid-reducing meds.). I would try that as a first course (and see a doctor.) |
|
OP - I don't want to list the things it could be because the list is long and ugly. Nonetheless, an appetite change, and weight loss are serious symptoms.
This is not a time for ginger tea, but a real appointment with a doctor who sorts this out. celiac panet, fecal blood etc are all reasonable. |
| OMG go to the doctor. Why would you try out home remedies? And don't let internet boards and DCUM scare you. It could be something like acid reflux which presents differently in teens/young adults and they have a hard time describing how they are feeling and some respond by not eating. But why not go to a dr. and let them rule out everything first, prescribe whatever is needed, and THEN think about whether adding home remedies like ginger tea or saltines can provide further relief. |
| My DD complained of this during a time when she suffered from anorexia. This was one of the first symptoms I noticed. |
