Dairy and Gluten-Free Dessert?

Anonymous
Any recommendations for a dairy-free and gluten-free delicious dessert that is not plain fruit? I'd like to accommodate a guest who's coming to my house for dinner in a few weeks. Thanks in advance!

A flourless chocolate cake. Just make sure you use dairy-free dark chocolate and/ or cocoa powder.

This, with some kind of fruit like raspberries sprinkled on top.

Less risk of cross contamination than trying to bake in a glutened up oven.

Google Elena's pantry chocolate pudding. Great with raspberries on top!

OP, it could depend on HOW gluten intolerant the eaters are. If they are seriously celiac, they might have an issue simply from flour residue on your pans, toast crumb in the butter, etc.
Chocolate covered strawberries... use dark chocolate and read the ingredients
There is a brand of ice cream made from coconut milk... So Delicious? Soy Delicious? You can find it in regular grocery stores. That should be dairy and gluten free. Add some fruit, or make an ice cream pie or something with maybe a GF crust. Maybe dark chocolate cups?

I do Passover desserts for our kosher relatives, and I like to bake. Some past favorites have been meringue disks layered with dairy free chocolate mousse and strawberries.

Tunis recipe is also fabulous and easy to adapt : http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/tangerine-souffle-with-citrus-coulis-367722?intcid=inline_amp

Look up gluten free on a shoe string. Or just go to Whole Foods and look in the frozen/GF section. Everything will be clearly labeled. Or the Happy Tart in Del Ray or Rise bakery in Adams Morgan.

I happend to keep a gf and dairy free diet, and I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Banana, rum, and coconut are very strong flavors that a lot of people don't like.

Keep it simple and buy one of those gluten free brownie mixes at the store. Betty Crocker has one that is perfectly delicious. Several other brands make them, too. You can also go with a gf cake mix as well. If it calls for milk, substitute almond milk. If it calls for butter, substitute 1/3 cup oil for every 1/2 cup butter required.

The soy ice creams are really good. The coconut ice creams are just okay but the coconut flavor can be off putting if you're not a coconut fan. The rice milk ice creams are very disappointing.

If you absolutely have to be a gourmet and cook everything from scratch, you can substitute gluten free flour in a recipe and add some xanthan gum (sold as a powder) to keep the mixture thick. King Arthur has the best gluten free flour (and the best mixes) but others are acceptable. The King Arthur flour also makes great sauces and gravy, even better than regular flour because of the high starch content.

I really wish people would stop serving coconut flavored everything. Coconut sorbet sounds awful.
