Dairy and Gluten-Free Dessert?

You can also go with a gf cake mix as well. If it calls for milk, substitute almond milk. If it calls for butter, substitute 1/3 cup oil for every 1/2 cup butter required.

The soy ice creams are really good. The coconut ice creams are just okay but the coconut flavor can be off putting if you're not a coconut fan. The rice milk ice creams are very disappointing.

If you absolutely have to be a gourmet and cook everything from scratch, you can substitute gluten free flour in a recipe and add some xanthan gum (sold as a powder) to keep the mixture thick. King Arthur has the best gluten free flour (and the best mixes) but others are acceptable. The King Arthur flour also makes great sauces and gravy, even better than regular flour because of the high starch content.

I am gluten free. and have to be gluten free and dairy-free a lot because one of my kids is dairy-free. And this poster ^ knows what they are talking about! Betty Crocker gf mixes are really good... substituting almond milk is easy and tastes good ( you can also use Earth Balance to substitute for butter). King Arthur has the best gf flour mixes. And I totally agree with the ice cream reports... I am really turned off by coconut. I used to like it, but it's become such a regular dairy substitute that now i don't like it because it has a strong flavor.

Honestly, I would go with the betty crocker mix! it's so easy and whenever i make brownies or a cake that is betty crocker GF people are genuinely shocked that it is gf.

I have made this, and it is outstanding. And pretty easy, too.

If you're interested in buying something Sticky Fingers is vegan and has wheat-free cakes and cupcakes.

serve whip cream on the side for those who do dairy.

Use parchment paper to reduce possible cross contamination from pans previously used to make items containing gluten.

I really wish people would stop serving coconut flavored everything. Coconut sorbet sounds awful.

I love coconut!

Ps. Just because you hate it doesn't mean everyone should stop serving it. You sound like a spoiled brat.

As much as I love them, if the person has celiac, Sticky Fingers may not be considered safe.

Thank you, everyone. I ended up doing the BC GF brownie mix. I usually like to make everything from scratch, but this was a great alternative. Thanks again for all of the suggestions.
