Any experiences with reporting a nonresident student in APS?

Does anyone have any experiences to share with reporting a nonresident student in APS? What is the procedure? Is it anonymous? There's no information about the process on the APS web site, just an employee's name and phone number.

Well they only know what you tell them. If they ask for your info, you can refuse to give it.

Apparently there are still students who are non residents attending under the Non Resident APS employee tuition initiative. Last school year the school board decided to allow the students who were already in, to be able to remain in until graduation. From what I heard they are only at Hoffman Boston, Randolph for elementary. Jefferson, Gunston, and Kenmore for middle. Wakefield for high school. It was discovered that at the time they stopped allowing students in, there were only around 30 to 40 students left. The number gets smaller every year since students have been graduating. This is what I found when I googled it. https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/legacy_assets/www/7553fb4500-25-2.1-admission-placement.pdf

Do you know for sure that they don't have a parent living in Arlington?

I can see someone reporting my daughter because her dad drives her to school and he lives in Alexandria. But I have primary custody and I live in Arlington, so she attends school using my address.

What evidence do you have? It better be better than so-and-so gets dropped off at school by someone with a MD license plate.

yep. There are a variety of ways this can be appropriate. Ex kids who are homeless, kids in foster care, etc. can continue to attend school in Arlington even if they are currently residing outside of Arlington.
Kids can have nannies/ extended relatives with out of Arlington car stickers dropping them off.
That being said- if the family is using a false address, and you report it- APS does follow up- it will visit the address in the evening, etc. Either way they won't get back to you.

PP, you are welcome to subsidize an out-of-county family if you wish. The rest of the county's taxpayers should not be forced to do so.

Their might be very good reasons for the child attending the school. They might be homeless, might have child care in the area, might have pupil placement for some other reason. Why would you want to harm a child by reporting this??

If there is a good reason, APS can sort that out. People are always telling me how well my child will do at their very low rated school. I'm sure this child will be just fine at whatever school they are zoned for.
