| I just hope this is the final calendar. As a MCPS teacher and a PGCPS single mom I need to know what days I have off well in advance so I can plan accordingly. Now I need PGCPS to get it together. They still haven't finalized their calendar. |
| Shocked that there's 8 professional days before school starts. And one through the year. Sucks for teachers. |
The professional days during the school are a big waste of time in my opinion. As a teacher sometimes I would prefer to teach then sit in a room all day for "professional development". I noticed most of them for next year are half days instead of a full day off for PD which I'm okay with. I'm probably not the norm |
|
And just think... 2017-2018 is an "easy" year with no election-related mandated closings and only 1 Jewish holiday to deal with. 2018-2019 will be much harder.
When did the state announce that the June 15 mandate in Hogan's EO meant that the districts had to get 180 days in by June 8? I missed that news but saw something on twitter about the calendar being discussed tonight. |
|
When will they do conferences? That Nov 9/10 duo looks like it is partially for PD, so that won't work. Maybe Nov 10th and 17th?
The calendar seems to do a decent job at getting the kids full weeks in Oct and Dec, but Nov is still ridiculous. It looks better than I expected. We'll see how it plays out with weather.... |
|
Here's the announcement on why they changed from the previously approved calendar: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/press/index.aspx?pagetype=showrelease&id=5028&type=&startYear=&pageNumber=&mode=
I liked the other one better; looks like they converted some professional days (full days off) into early release/professional days so they will still count as instructional days. Future years will be challenging! |
The conferences are Nov 10 and 17. This was mentioned in the meeting last night. |
| I'm planning to spend my spare time in 2018 volunteering for the campaign of whoever has the best chance of defeating Larry Hogan. |
Seriously. Since when does finished by June 15 really mean by June 8? I fully expect spring break to be reduced to 4 school days (ex: Wed-Friday + Monday) at some point. |
| Oh but we will have 6/16!!! The new most important state holiday. Our school year went from 184 days to 182 but we get JUNE 16th!!! I hope Hallmark comes out with greeting cards to send! |
| So annoyed because Hogan made decisions based on other factors, rather than what's best for students. So how do they solve the problems he created? Reducing the number of school days. Nice. Going from 184 to 182 isn't a huge deal, by why is that even an option? He can pretend he cares about all Marylanders but it's such bullshit. I think he's out of touch with conservative Maryland voters--Maryland Republicans are about taxes and fiscal matters. Education and social issues are where most MD voters lean Democratic. He can't survive as a Republican governor in MD by making poor decisions on education, and this is one of them. |
You missed it because its NOT 180 days. Its 180 days plus contingencies, such as snow days. |
| I just want them to finalize the dates!! Need to know! |
|
So let's see how many days they kids will still watch movies in school. all this complaining about instructional days is total BS
It looks fine and there is a lot of fat built into that i mean how many half days do they need? |
