Harper had a heart attack while working out, is ok, but was in the hospital for 8 days
Lest someone take this as a suggestion not to exercise... sometimes it's in your genes. You can reduce/delay your risk, but even if you do everything right, you can still collapse and die from a sudden, major heart attack. http://www.tmz.com/2017/02/27/bob-harper-heart-attack/ |
| Genetics yes period but working out and eating well probably protected him from actually dying from the side attack. At least in part |
| I wonder if he was doing any diet drugs or stimulants. |
| Poor guy! |
| Wowser. That's humbling. |
Or postponed it from happening earlier. |
He's lucky he was at a gym and there was a doctor there who could do CPR and use paddles |
| It will be interesting to see how he manages this as an entertainer/fitness guru. Curious to see if this starts a trend away from Paleo. Very curious what "extras" he was taking as others mentioned. I think genetics absolutely played a role, but his insistence so far that it is ONLY genetics concerns me. Hopefully rather than people using this as an excuse not to exercise, people will start to reconsider exertion levels. I wonder if things like HIIT and extensive weight training are for everyone. Perhaps a doctor needs to examine family history and other factors. Walking and swimming are the safest and mild to moderate weight training helps prevent osteoporosis. |
Its a fast response from physicians, aspirin, morphine adn nitroglycerin, plus whatever procedure he had at the hospital that saved him, not his exercise. Exercise slightly reduces risk of a heart attack, but you cannot cheat genetics. |
| There is already a thread on this in Health |
Is Harper into Paleo? Jillian Michaels has gotten heat for being anti-Paleo. She follows a more Michael Pollan-esque diet recommendation. Eat mostly plants, eat real high quality food, some meat and diary is fine, but plants - all plants (including non or minimally refined grains) are your friend. |
Yes, google Harper and Paleo. He followed the trend of going Vegan when it was in vogue and then Paleo if I recall correctly. There were also allegations as a trainer on Biggest Loser he encouraged contestants to take Adderall and street drugs. There are just allegations and as far as I know nothing has been proved. He did sell his own supplement though for a while and that's ann unregulated market where unsafe "herbs" etc could be put in. |

From vegan to paleo and now on a Mediterranean diet...
