Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon - two weeks to go!

Anonymous
Anyone else doing the rock n roll half marathon coming up?

If so, how has your training been going? Do you feel ready?

I'll start - ran ten slow miles yesterday. Plan to just do eight next weekend so I'm not too sore for the race.

Have only been doing long runs, so it will be a struggle, but fun.

What is it?

Running?

Playing music?

Do you have to qualify?

(Since you started the thread).

I'm not the OP, but it is a running race. Half marathon (13.1 miles ) or Full marathon (26.2)
Along the course there are bands to help entertain you.
You do not have to qualify

Good Luck OP! I ran the half last year and had a blast!

Do u think it's possible to run half marathon without any training? I run every day but never more than 3 miles. The most I've ever done was 12K. Advice? TIA

I'm sure it's possible, but I would not chance it. You would be setting yourself up for injury, or at best, a horrible time and some serious soreness after.

If I were you, I would try for the Army Ten Miler and/or the Baltimore Half Marathon (both in October) and train accordingly, even if it's just getting in a few long distance runs.

And by horrible time, I mean that it would not be fun, not that your pace would be bad.

Thank you. Do you know if I have to maintain a certain speed or can I walk (in case I cannot run any more?) I definitely don't want to get injured, but don't really care about the time. This just sounds like fun Thank you for your help.

NP.

Lots of people do a run-walk method when they do races, rather than running all the way through. Walking doesn't mean giving up; it means taking care of your body if that's what you need! I can't connect to Jeff Galloway's site right now, but he has a great Run-Walk-Run training method. Here's some info on the benefits: https://runnersconnect.net/coach-corner/dont-shun-runwalk-method-experienced-beginners-alike-can-ultilize-runwalk-smarter-training/

Check out Hal Higdon training as well - http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51130/Half-Marathon-Training-Guide

Looks like he has a walking program.

Many races have a time cutoff so if you're planning on walking you should be sure that you can finish before the time cutoff or risk getting pulled off the course and not finishing.

I cannot fathom why one would want to do a long distance race without training. There's an ENORMOUS difference between being able to run 3 miles and being able to run 13. If you think you would have to walk a significant portion, why would you sign up? Why wouldn't you want to train and do the best you can?

PP, instead of jumping right from 3 miles to 13.1, without training, why not find a happy medium--like a 10k?
