I am curious to find out how much you have in your 401k at age 40 individually. Apart from that how much do you have saved in your bank? Have you also saved funds for child's education. Tell me about it. I am trying to determine if I am on the right track for savings for my retirement. |
The only people who generally answer these questions here are the braggarts who have saved millions and want to feel superior! |
What's your income? You should have 3x saved for retirement. How old are you kids? |
"Saving" money is vulgar. I have, however, created a series of income streams that will result in myself, my spouse, my children, my grandchildren, and my great grandchildren never having to work.
I did this shortly after turning 39. |
Saving money and pasta salad! |
DH is 40, I am 36
My 401K: 130K (his is approx. the same) Our cash: 30K College savings: 6K (one 3 yo) I would say we are not on the right track - we have to catch up from 2 years of not saving. |
I am 39. I have 90k in my 401k and about $280k in cash. (I know I need to do something with the cash but I'm extremely risk averse.). DH has a little less in his 401k and a little more in his investment account. |
My 401k at 40 is 50k. ( I moved to USA 10 years ago, studied here, had breaks between jobs, did temp jobs). I am not on the right track in terms of 401k savings). My bank savings around 100K. DH is also 40 has around 200k and around $300k in savings. I have one toddler, no college savings yet but plan to start a 529 soon. |
We are 43 and 42 and have about 1.3m in 401k accounts. We hit 1m combined when I turned 40. We have stopped contributing since last summer because nanny and pt preschool but will be done with nanny this fall. |
I have about 230K between IRAs and 403b, spouse is younger and has about the same. We've got about 50K in a 529. Solid emergency fund. I was a SAHP for six years and have always worked non-profit, so salary has been on the low side. We also help our parents, so all things considered I think we are solid. That said, living in this area, I always feel we should have more. |
DH is 39 and has about $500k in his TSP. I am 37 and have $65k in TSP. We have about $120k in other investments and $120k in 529 money ($60k/kid). $30k in cash. |
42 and have 350,000 in 401K, 50,000 in 529 (1 child in 2nd grade and only 18,000 in regular savings, no other investments. Spouse is 40 and has 250,000 in his TSP. |
Currently $0. |
DH age 41 500k in 401k
Me 39 90k. I feel very behind. My current company has a generous match and plan to contribute 28k/yr going forward. |
You need to do something about that cash. Not enough 401k. |
