I'm 37. DH is 38. We have about $570 combined between my TSP and DH's 401k. We also have $16K in 529s for two kids and $200K in other savings. We don't own a home. Maybe someday? Every time we run the numbers, renting is better than buying, but when I look at what we've saved that seems crazy since we could own a home with no mortgage if used our savings to purchase a house. |
I maxed out my 401K contribution every month while I was working. My husband did as well. Very few investments can compare to 50 percent matching.
|
50% matching sounds amazing. which company did/does that? |
Is that rare? Most companies I’ve worked for did 100% match up to maybe 6% or so. And a few did better than that. |
I turn 40 next year. Currently have $315k in my 401k. DH (same age) has a little more in his, so around $650k total.
|
At age 40, I had $275k.
I'm 48 now and have $800k. I've been lucky to have some really great company matches. |
I am 35 and have $300k in retirement accounts. I was told I need to have my age x 100k so I am $50k behind. Also have $8k in 529 for 3 children so behind there. $30k in emergency fund so ok there. |
40 and 38, around $1.2M collectively in various retirement accounts. |
Age * 100k would put you at 3.5mil, no? I think you mean age * 10k -- though where are you getting that metric, never heard it before. I've heard 2x income at 35 from Fidelity. |
I'm 45 and spouse is 43.5. A few months ago, we had about $1.7 M in our combined retirement. Haven't looked recently. |
42, about $750K in 401 and $250k in cash. My husband has about $750K in 401K and $150-200K between another post tax investment account and cash. We have 1 home paid off, current value about $950K. Income combined is about $300-#350 depending on the year. |
I'm 21, and have $5.2 million in my retirement account but you guys how do I save more per month? |
ha! |
Don’t even bother. You’re screwed no matter what you do. |
