Does Janney fund classroom aides?

Anonymous
I thought only Mann did that, but I was looking at the Janney website and they have "partner teachers" listed for 1st grade-- and DCPS only has aides for PK-K.

Also, what's a co teacher?

Yes, but all the Janney parents on DCUM call them "teachers."

example: "The ratios in the classrooms at Janney are the same at those at a nearby private school; my child has a class of 28 and two TEACHERS. It's a private school education — for free!!"

Janney parent of first grader here. Yes there is a co teacher or partner teacher in the classroom. She is not a DCPS certifed teacher but she is getting her masters in education and has been co-teaching (or whatever you want to call it) for years.

I think there is also another kind of "partner teacher" who floats among the classrooms to help with pull outs and specialized things but again, I am fuzzy on details. This person played a bigger role in my child's K class- not sure about this year.

Also PP here- Janney is definitely NOT private school for free (as someone who did attend private schools). Frankly, I don't know anyone IRL who says this. Maybe for PK4?

In first grade she covers 2 classrooms so she's with each of them for 2.5 days per week.

But she's not paid for by the PTA right? This is just a principal choice to put a floating teacher in there.

Careful how you answer this Janney.

The Janney K class has 3 adults in the classroom for most of the day. I assume 1 is paid for by the PTA.

Extra points for bitchiness.

As a Janney parent, I don't think there's a ton of transparency on what is PTA-paid for vs. DCPS-paid for. I say this as someone who doesn't go to PTA meetings (admittedly) so perhaps if I went, I would learn this. But it's not like there's a line item breakdown of where the money goes. I have a general belief that the PTA pays for the extra custodial staff, and the extra staff around during recess (my child reports that the afterschool staff is usually there during recess, and I assume this isn't on DCPS dime). But no clue about who pays for partner/co teachers after K.

I'm sure she has a wide and grateful audience of Janney haters...
