Any thoughts on whether they will increase the student body at CP Academy once they occupy the new building? Have they designed it with the hopes of expanding the program?

The new building already seems small for the current student body. No gym as promised either.

Meh. You don't want your kid to go there. My DD is so much happier now that she's at a different school.

They anticipate having 100 kids in each class.

Thursday the County school board renewed the school's contract for five more years. Begining in 2018 the school will have a local catchment area for 35% of new students. The catchment area is for pupils in the following elementary school areas: Berwyn Heights, Cherokee Lane, Hollywood, Riverdale, Paint Branch, and University Park.

Why post something like this without listing reasons? This isn't helpful.

Why? Seems like they are excluding a lot of other neighborhood schools that are just as close if not closer.

What does this mean? 35% of new students need to come from those schools?

I believe so. I think that at one point UMD wanted to try to encourage faculty to live closer to campus and they saw the lack of a high quality public middle school as an obstacle so they tried to negotiate this into the charter.

No it just means those from those schools will be automatically allowed admission until the 35% cap is met. Every one else will have to lottery. It's simple. They're trying to encourage certain people to enroll their kids in the public elementary schools.

The students don't need to be in public elementary schools to be eligible for the preference. They just need to live within the catchment area of those elementary schools.
