ECNL moving to school year part 2

No way. They will gladly take the August kid on the SY A team if they are good enough to make it. Clubs care about winning far more than grade alignment.

Posted about age change and commented back to parents asking questions. Kids who are in misaligned grades will be allowed to tryout to play up but it’s not guaranteed. No players will be forced up.

What they're not saying is no misaligned players will make grade down A teams. If you dont try out for and make the correct grade A team you'll be lightly funneled into either the grade down B team or correct grade B team, your choice.

So if you're an August born player who tries out for a lower grade team, and you're the oldest and one of the best players in the pool, you will be judged only on what grade you are and not how good of a player you are?
No, clubs don't force kids to play up. Their issue right now is getting kids August - December to all move down an age group and all the chaos that that ensues. They have to be pretty firm on playing on age so they properly adjust to SY from BY.

I was responding to the person saying if you don't make your grade A team (playing up because you're an August born), then playing on age a grade lower, you will be put on the B team
Doesn't make any sense. Nobody in youth soccer has announced this or to my knowledge ever done this. They are called age groups for a reason.

Agreed. I don't think a coaching staff will force August kids playing a grade lower to be on B teams of they are good enough to be on the A team.

Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything. If they don't make the A team thats their grade Aug birthdays will have the opportunity to play on the B team thats their age or the B team thats a grade down.
You speak with forked tongue. Everyone has a shot at the top team in their age group. If I said short kids aren't allowed on top teams, it doesn't make it true either.

Not when it causes drama and issues for the club.

Clubs don't even know grade alignment or not. Coach got annoyed at me once for mentioning that my kid was a grade below teammates. Too much drama with playing up, bragging, Fomo. They send the kids to the different fields for tryouts by birthday date without asterisks.

Allowing kids to play up in bulk numbers is the drama leagues and clubs are avoiding at all costs.

It does if you run a club. Many parents don't get it for sure, they think their DC deserves special treatment, that's the drama, that's the problem.

Kids wanting to play on teams.with other kids in their grade in school is normal. The fact that you cant see that is problematic.

It's also normal for kids to play with different grades, now in BY and before in SY, especially in travel when you typically don't play with actual classmates. Both should happen where appropriate.

No, playing on teams with players that are all a grade younger than your kid is not normal. In fact the entire switch back from BY to SY was done to allow more players to play on teams with other kids in their grade.

Normal and not normal are perspectives based on opinions. Meaningless essentially.

Travel soccer wants ages over grades for a host of reasons; fairness, safety, accountability, policing, etc. School, rec and travel have latitude to play with friends. Mid and upper level travel has latitude to go case by case for the best players to challenge themselves. The rest is a 12 month window, like the soccer gods have chosen since the beginning of time.

You would better serve your child by constantly communicating with your club to have them set the team to suite your child's special needs.

You want August players to compete against kids 13 months older because the school system doesn't have a standard cutoff date?

If my kid was an August birthday, yes I'd want them on a team with other players grade in school.

It's the "if" part that matters. Without an August kid, you don't get a vote on what any August kids does. Travel is 8/1 - 7/31. Thems the rules.
