HB Woodlawn lottery?

Anonymous
Has anybody heard yet? (rising 6th graders.)

Waitlisted.

From past admittances, I'm not convinced it's a random lottery.

There just wouldn't be that many PTA Presidents kids, siblings and big elementary school donors every year. There is no sibling preference (except twins) and I know a helluva lot of siblings that attend.

^^its not. It's a fucking sham.

Diversity isn't supposed to be a factor---but it is.

Your waitlist number is just for your zone, correct?

Or is it total?

Been my experience as well. Meanwhile Swanson, Williamsburg, Wakefield, Yorktown and WL continue to grow more and more overcrowded while somehow HB is allowed to maintain it's small size. I know, I know, HB has very generously increased their enrollment so that they can share our pain. Give me a break.

I wish they would kill HB! It is not fair for other schools to have even one more student when HB is so small.

My husband and I discussed this and are thinking of taking legal action. If one more f*ckin big donor from our elementary school gets in this year---then I know they bought their way in and the elementary school principal pulled strings (which I have suspected all along). Really? There is no way that is a "random" student body.

More people need to mobilize and apply pressure.

One tiny school population vs an entire County.

You should be able to get a list of the students that were accepted and their school zone.

With all of the residency fraud in this County that's another starting point.

I'm it's been asked and answered before, but ...

Doesn't every elementary school a certain number every school a predetermined amount of slots?

Yes--and the argument is that who gets the slots appears to be predetermined, not random, as well.

Someone in my family works at HB. I've never heard anything about the lottery process that would suggest it is not a random lottery. REPEAT: As far as I know, the lottery absolutely is random. As far as my family member knows, the lottery absolutely is random.

Okay, now that I've said that I will tell you that I too do not believe it is really random.
