anyone know a place to volunteer with 6 year old?

My kid LOVES animals. I was looking for a place where she could volunteer with dogs, mostly. Doesn't seem like the Humane Society has any options for her age. Someone at work told me about a place (in Ohio) where kids can go in to the shelters and read to the animals. Anything like that around here?

See if there are any local 4-H chapters around you.

Most rescues and vets require volunteers to be 16.

It's just not a good idea for kids that young. I know your kid loves dogs but dogs that are pets and that you know are different than dogs that are in a shelter or with a rescue.

I agree. OP- you should ask friend's and family about visiting them if they have a nice friendly dog. When my kids were young they used to read to our dog and 2 of a relatives dogs. Our dog also went to school for show and tell and my DC demonstrated hand signal commands and some other children were shown commands and got to do it also.

It was thrilling for those who did not have a dog. https://va.evanced.info/fairfaxcounty/lib/eventcalendar.asp?kw=therapy+dog&do=0&nd=27&dt=mo&df=list&cn=0&private=0&ln=ALL But I would never have a child with a shelter/rescue dog. You just don't know and frankly neither do some of the staff. I'm considering getting training for the current dog to be a certified therapy dog.
