I think a kid here or there slips through the enforcement (of which, there is apparently very little). But the idiocy and brazenness of trying to cheat with half a football team was just foolish.

No no no. The Champe guy is far worse than any coach that’s been mentioned in this thread.

He's awful but sorry, there is no way he talked 15 kids into transferring to Champe and then 9 couldn't play because he lied to them about the rules. So, he's a cheater but can't hold a candle to Overton (who is still somehow employed???)

Did WW get fired from Champe?

He would have got more if he could’ve convinced them to come out there and play for him. The guys just such scum that a lot of people won’t deal with him.
Not sure if he was fired or not, but probably the way things were going. The guy was using the school gym for his sons AAU and travel teams, doing group training sessions, etc, then pretending that any money he was making would be donated to the school. I’m sure the school saw a very low percentage of any money he made, if anything at all.

We saw their team in the fall league last year, he was putting his elementary school twins into the JV games while he had high schoolers sitting on the bench. What a douchecanoe.

I can believe he was doing that. His sons play on an elite team which was more of his priority. The players on his son’s 6th grade team would practice with his high school players.
If you ever had a conversation with him, all he ever talks about is how good his son’s teams were. Never would he mention Champe. Some people say he was fired. He says he resigned.

Sounds like Hayfield coach/activities dir./principal were happy to turn a blind eye to the situation so long as they got good players, but VHSL asked more questions like "where does X actually sleep?" and "where do X's parents sleep at night?"

Pitiful.

I’m sure the coach didn’t recruit any kids he knew lived outside the zoned area. I do believe he probable had an idea that some kids could be living outside the school district, but that man already has enough on his plate trying to get his team ready to play at a high level and he isn’t making hardly any money. He doesn’t have time to be policing every players home address.
How many coaches even know where the kids on their team live? Let’s be realistic.

Meaning he was pleasantly surprised that 13 players from Freedom magically showed up on the Hayfield roster (plus the two from private school) and he knew better than to ask why such a magical thing was happening to him.

Hilarious! Almost all the new Hayfield kids came from the school he worked at last year and played for him last year, in another county. You think thats.....a coincidence? The other two were superstars at two different private schools: one in DC and one in Maryland. You think they both just...happened to move to Hayfield and decide to give up their private school scholarships to attend public? And he just happened to be the coach?

We aren't as dumb as he is, lol.

How. much did they collect? You would need a lot to rent an apartment for the school year!

OTOH, where did the money go?

It was tens of thousands!

Doesn't sound like a good situation for the high school kids at all. What high school kids want to regularly practice with elementary schoolers.
I bet he was fired, using school gym space for private businesses is a huge no. If the high school teams aren't using the gym time, it is supposed to be made available for permitted use by community non-profits like DYS. It doesn't seem like he is coaching anywhere else which also suggests being canned.

If it makes you feel any better, tge payment app she collected the money on should 1099 her since the amount she received was over $500.00, so she will be required to pay taxes on the tens of thousands of dollars she collected from the football players. That is, unless she did something shifty with the collection. Were parents required to pay the money as a "friends and family" type transaction?

The money collected from each kid was $200.00/player, correct? So $200.00 × 50 players = around ten thousand dollars? Or was the amount collected bigger than $200.00?

Did the original Hayfield payers that dropped get their money back?

Is Hayfield getting all their pre game meals catered by restaurants? Or are the parents still bringing food for the team?

What exactly did the team recrive from this money collected?

If she is a FCPS employee, how was she able to collect this money, without using myschoolbucks as required by FCPS? OR going through the official team boosters with a board, treasurer, and detailed expense logs and budgets distributed in writing to all the parents at the public boosters meeting?

Define "hardly any money"?
He is getting paid the football coach stipend AND was hired to be head of school security so he is making at least $90k from Fairfax County Taxpayers.

He also runs a private "elite" football AAU training/club (and surely is helping himself to Hayfield field space and resources to run that) which I imagine is quite lucrative and probably takes profits and a salary from that.

And, don't forget the money that was fundraised that has mysteriously gone missing.....

I think the situation with the fundraising app was covered in the Fairfax Times articles but it doesn't look like FCPS looked into that at all.

The "team mom/manager" is named Sarah Boutwell and she was hired by Hayfield principal to be a special ed teacher at Hayfield after Overton was hired. She was one of the several "friends and family" hires that were processed suspiciously quickly. There is no evidence online that she has ever worked as a teacher prior to this year.

Did someone die and make you the Thread Police? The topic is the Hayfield Coach's Embarrassing Cheating Scandal and How He Got Caught and people have made comments regarding similar--but not as ridiculous--cheating by another local well-known coach. Maybe people from Woodbridge aren't familiar with high schools in Loudoun County, and that's ok. Woodbridge is not local to the Hayfield area OR anywhere near Loudoun! Just read along and learn something.
