It means they considered his ideas and rejected them because it is not how the royal family works. They encouraged Haz to forge his own path and pay his own way, and he is having his revenge. It’s beyond sad and spiteful.

No. I think you’re lying. You did not read the book. Had you actually read the book you would know that it was workable, as others had done it before. Did you also consider Charles’ book sad and spiteful when he lambasted his mom and others?

I haven't posted since the beginning of this thread and just finished the audible book today. Harry presented 5 options, from nothing to changing to complete cut-off. Apparently he wanted a middle ground, the palace chose the middle ground. I really don't understand why he presented options that were unacceptable to him.

Where did the book say he proposed the five options? I went over that passage again and it says only that he, the Queen, Charles and William were presented with the five options at the Sandringham Summit. I took that to mean the palace had prepared the list of five possible options.

Didn’t he suggest that those options were the ones he sent to his father? The bit that they could have only come from one source?

I, too, had the impression that the 5 options were prepared by the palace, and I don’t remember learning what all five of them actually were.

I don’t know that it was pitting him against his brother, do you?

This is beyond the scope of the book, but Elizabeth and her line gained access to the throne when her uncle abdicated, and her father — the then spare — became king. So I’m guessing that it’s a fine line to walk — preparing the spare to both rule if need be, but also step completely out of the way for a sibling. Even now, Harry is one serious illness and one fluke or accident away from being Regent, at least until George comes of age.

WRT the security issue. If anything happens to Harry or his children, King Charles might have to hang it up.

They'll give them a nice funeral, if that's what you mean.

This is what really gets me about how cold-blooded Charles is. He knows Harry cares too much about his family to let anything happen to them, so will bankrupt himself to make sure they have proper security. Charles is counting on the fact that Harry will make sure nothing happens so he can keep the money that otherwise would be spent on their security team.

A King/Queen is supposed to be cold-blooded. Sentiment is for horses and dogs, not crazy children.

If that kind of ruthlessness toward your children is what it means to be in the royal family, I can understand why Harry decided to step back.

Good point. So they should not complain about the books and interviews.

Hopefully, they will have the class to just ignore this soap opera and continue on with their lives.

They don't have class. After reading this book, I see them as any other dumb family trying to hold onto what used to work.

I lost all allusions that William had class when I read that he drinks rum and cokes lol

Says more about you than William.

So perhaps Charles is expecting to use his shiny new coach and His ‘n’ Hers made to measure thrones for more than I realized.

The machinations here feel positively Shakespearean.

If they really want peace and safety, would moving to a ranch in a place like rural Montana and living out of limelight would help?

Did you read the book? They tried doing that in an isolated/rural place on Vancouver Island. It lasted 6 weeks before the media found them.

no one is "after" them. if they had stayed in England they would have had security and could have lived relatively low key lives like Zara or Lady Louise. They never had the paps hound them like Diana did, and they could have easily faded into a country life with money, protection and Harry's family who he supposedly loves. They WANTED to go abroad to MAKE MONEY and be FAMOUS!!!

That's a laugh!!
They are all, and completely, about getting all the media attention they can get. That's all they are about!

What they — especially Meghan — had instead was constant virulently racist media attacks, and multiple violent threats. So, possibly “low key” but hardly “like Lady Louise”. It’s amazing how easily some people dismiss the intensity of chronic racism.
