3 year old died at the DOL daycare

How awful. I'm so sad for that poor family. I wonder what food provider the daycare uses, how hard were the meatballs? This breaks my heart.

Why were meatballs served to preschoolers?!

Was it definitely provided by the daycare? I always sent food at my daycare. We do send meatballs (vegetarian ones) with my preschooler, though we usually cut them up.

This is so sad. Before people point fingers, we should wait to hear the details.

DOL daycare provides all food.

A three year should be capable of eating a meatball. I'm wondering if maybe there was a bone in the meat? Regardless, so heartbreaking.

Does anyone know whether DOL uses Good Food Company for their catering?

Oh no. That is terrible. DOL does all the food. My guess is that meatballs can be too dense and create a choking hazard.

I don't think the issue is necessarily the meatballs. I choke on my food every once in a while too. Kids just aren't good at choking and clearing their airways and sometimes eat too fast. Tragic!

actually meatballs are dense and pasty and the perfect size to get caught in a windpipe.

Blaming the child for choking to death. What a lovely person you must be.

I was wondering the same thing. My DD used to be at a govt. daycare, although not DOL, that used Good Food. Now she is at a center in Virginia that uses Jeffery's. Meatballs are on the menu for next Monday (for the PP who questioned giving meatballs to preschoolers).
