Dog ate used tampon....emergency vet?

Anonymous
My dog ate a used tampon. I assume he chewed it up as he had it for a while (he hides under the bed and I can't catch him). Emergency vet? I am so pissed and worried. He gets into every fucking thing.

Give him a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide quickly and he'll puke it up. Take to vet if you are concerned about the though. How big was it?

Call the vet and ask.

I use the smallest size....extra slim?

Sorry this is very TMI!

Our 20 pound dog has done that several times and it passed through fine. Gross but no medical problems. Invest in trash cans with lids for every bathroom in the house.

Hope your dog is ok OP! Keep us posted. Love my dog, but they can be so gross.

Those things really expand. I would be worried too. Definitely call the vet!

This is not medical advice, but I'd try the hydrogen peroxide. Look it up online. I can't remember what percent but it's the common type people have. You'd need to do it fast though. For oddly shaped objects there is a chance having hem regurgitate it could be harmful, but it's probably better than it going into the intestines.

I literally just threw up in my mouth. I would not take him to the vet yet. I would watch for signs of blockage though. How big is the dog? Smaller dog I might be more worried. The blood won't get him. Make sure he continues to poop and doesn't seem to be in any pain.

Like most urgent medical questions on this website, I would call the applicable doctor (in this case the vet) and ask a real professional who isn't an anonymous respondent on a website.

How big is your dog? Mine is a lab and she ate an ULTRA tampon, used.

The grossest thing ever.

She pooped it out the next day.

If it wasn't used I would be more concerned b/c then it could expand in her gastro tract. But mine was done expanding! So if yours was "full" -- I would just keep an eye on her for a day or two. You should see it come out.

My dog once ate 2 of them. The only way I knew was that she threw them up the next day. I was so scared and thankful she was ok. I went out and bought garbage cans with lids on them for all of m bathrooms.

I did, but I also have a stomach virus. This didn't help.
