Rodents in DCPS

Anonymous
Do anyone knows if DCPS has a contract for pest control. I was in a school and the mice were just running rampant through the area. Then I was at another school for a basketball game and the rats were more visible than the players on the gymnasium floor. I am hearing stories of teachers saying that they have mice/rats droppings in every nook and cranny. The school administrators have said they have implemented every pest control eradicator that's safe but the custodial staff can be overwhelmed.

Contact the schools custodial staff.

LOL. The last week at Murch, the teachers and kids wrote all over the walls - it was really cute. But there were lots of odes to the mice who lived there including drawings. If you are in an older building...maybe some school cats?

I was told that the construction workers loved the notes the kids wrote on the walls. And they have been surprised to find we weren't exaggerating.

That is awesome. And the drawings and notes were so cute - I took pictures of a lot of them. And the mice were rampant. I didn't mind those as much as the roaches though!

There aren't very many buildings in this city without mice. Especially the older buildings. I've seen mice in my son's school as well.

that would be a brilliant solution that would never fly with DCPS. Allergy concerns aside, they would worry more about the red tape of having mousers than the potential cost/risk of rodent infestation

I've been teaching in DCPS for 14 years and the mice are something I've just accepted. One time a teacher's pet snake got loose in the building and I was secretly ecstatic because I thought it could alleviate the mouse problem. Another time a parent removed a live mouse/sticky trap combo during our conference because I couldn't handle it and the custodian was taking a while.

The renovations should help with that.Modern buildings are better sealed against rodents.

Mice are everywhere, you'd be surprised at the WOTP schools! Schools too posh to allow mouse sticky traps, so I'm resorting to other measures. I would NEVER eat school cafeteria food

These are brand newly renovated and built from scratch schools. These are not just mice bit rats as trash receptacle for garbage and the doors to building are just mere feet away. I don't even want to share the remedies...and there's nothing worst than the stench of a dead rodent. Nibble, chew, gnaw and eat everything in their paths...then they have the nerve to leave remnants everywhere

Oh my I pity the neighbors who live near Murch. Those mice and rats will try to find new homes while the school is torn up. That happened at Lafayette. I have friends just downhill from the school and they were majorly infested during the recent project.

Last year in PK4 the kids had to rest on the risers in the classroom because there were class mice running around the floor. I pointed out that mice can climb and was told it was mostly to make the kids feel better. Upper NW DCPS.
