Was in NYC last weekend and went to a restaurant where Gwenyth Paltrow was seated with two friends. Um...sorry but aside from being tall and lanky (will give her that) she is almost unattractive, almost homily. Seriously! I do not get how she got to where she is. She was not a looker by any stretch. I used to think she was not so bad and didn't understand when people criticized her looks but having seen her in person...I get it. Is her acting really that great? Jury is out.

Beauty is somewhat subjective, as many do find her beautiful, of course. Also, her mother is Blythe Danner, and her father was a director or producer. Connections!

I think she got her start because of connections--Blythe and Bruce. Her godfather, I believe, is Speilburg? And that's how she got her initial role in "Hook"?

Anyway, famous parents, staying very thin and blonde = enough for a start in Hollywood. I don't think she's gorgeous, but I DO think she is a talented actor. She lights up in "Shakespeare in Love."

Madonna was living in Britain and married to a British guy. Some people have a sympathetic ear and they pick up accents easily, without meaning to.

My dad is one of these people, he is from Queens, NY and if he is in Minnesota, starts sounding like he is from there, NC, etc!

She has a traditional old European beauty - tall, white, blonde, thin, and delicate but sort of sickly/fragile looking.

I don't even think she looks European. I think someone like Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone, or Kate Winslet fit much more into the traditional "european looking" beauties.

But then I find them to be actually beautiful, and I think Gyneth is plain faced with a large schnoz.
