| I wasn't able to get this answer on the internet so thought someone here might know. I'm a fed and several paychecks ago met the taxable max for 2016 SSI income - so my paycheck has been bigger without that deduction for several paychecks. Yesterday's check was about $400 smaller than it has been. I'll ask HR but does anyone here know if this is an error? I assume the 2017 deductions should not be taken out of a 2016 check deposited on 12/31? |
| Sorry for the autocorrect in the title was supposed to say paycheck |
| The paycheck you received on 12/31 is for the first pay period of 2017, and consists of 2017 funds. I'm certain your agency has communicated that you shouldn't expect the paycheck to hit your account until Monday or Tuesday, even though it seems like most people still get it Friday or Saturday. |
| That deposit shows as pending (ours does), but the check is deposit is dated 1/2/2017. So that is your FICA being withheld again. |
| Not a fed - but I had a similar thing. I did a side by side comparison of my last 2 paychecks to see what happened. |
If you're paid by DOI, you don't get your direct deposit til Tuesday. Everyone else got a 27 paycheck year in 2015. The DOI has managed to push it off until 2018
|
DOI paid their workers on Dec. 30 (normally it would have been Jan. 2). |
+1. I don't work for DOI, but they manage our deposits, and that's what we have been told (several times in the last six months). Also correct that you were just paid for the last PP of 2016 (unclear how that works, since it covered through 12/24), so your FICA contribution resets. |
| Paid by DOI (work for SSA), my paycheck showed up as "processing" but is included in my available balance. They told us how/when it would credit depends on our bank (I'm BoA). |
|
Same boat. This paycheck is for 2017.
Sadly, next year I won't see any extra since the cutoff went up! I wasn't expecting it this year and put that unexpected $250 right back into the economy in the form of christmas presents. |
yep mine has been "processing" for 2 days at TD bank; normally it's just 1 day. That may have to do with the holiday not sure. |
| That's what happened to my husband's pay (on Saturday). I got paid Friday and still received the higher amount. We work for different federal agencies. |
| I don't think it's because the pay is for 2017. I think it's because it's supposed to hit your account in 2017. I am a fed and got paid Friday at the higher amount. The pay is for 2016 work and I received it in 2016. |
| For my agency this is the first pay of 2017 even though it's for 2016 work. So I'm paying SSI taxes again and the TSP and FERS reset so YTD contributions and matches reflect that this is the first deduction of the yr. And my insurance premium is a few dollars higher. |
what is the new cutoff? |
