is 7 too old for Build a Bear birthday party?

Trying to find options for my DD who will be turning 7. Is that too old for Build a Bear? What price party is 'worth' it (is the basic enough for kids to be happy)? Do you do cake afterward in the mall? Any other tips?

Not at ALL. My DD didn't even get one until she was almost 11.

Ugh. A mall birthday? Really? If she's the one asking for it, sure (and it means she spends too much time at the mall). But there are tons of pottery painting places or ice skating or rock-climbing or... gasp, a home birthday party.

Just so you're aware (and I'm not the OP), the nearest pottery painting place to me is in A MALL.

No I don't think it's too young at all.

I never done one, but I'm sure the 7 year old crowd would like it (despite it being--GASP--at a mall). Doing a cake at the food court is fine too.

If you're looking for a non-bounce house option, pizza party (7th Hill does them) or a nature center are fun.

I did it for my 5. We did the 'awesome adventure.' 35/child. The pro on that one was almost all the bear choices are available for them to choose. Just a handful are more expensive than they can choose. And in my party, one kid chose a more exp and they rolled with it. Didn't charge extra.

We just kept the guest list pretty small.

I think 7 would be the right age, actually

We did one when my dd turned 8 and all the kids loved it! We did not do one of their official packages, but had spoken to them ahead of time so they knew we were coming. They were so helpful. We only allowed the kids to pick from the cheapest bears and I had pre bought some outfits online ahead of time that the kids chose from. We had 8 kids and they all slept over after. Reminded us that things don't need to be perfect or pulled together for them to have a good time!

I'll answer your Q about cake too, and other general info.

We brought our stroller to help carry a large box of cupcakes, favor bags, and a few decorations.
build a bear staff kept gifts behind their desk. We kept our stroller near the desk/out of the way.
Later could use the stroller also to transport gifts and the rest.

Towards the end, dh went out to the court with the stroller while I of course stayed at the party. (Keep a wallet to pay).
He found an isolated-ish spot and grabbed a few tables, our down a table cloth, plates, etc. we had also brought a few snacks to serve before cupcakes.

When the store party was done, thd girls and I, and a couple of parents who stayed, headed over to the court and did the snacks, cake, gifts, favors, hung out.

Our surprise was the fire alarm going off at the end of the party. Evacuation! One month after the Pulse shooting, so there was a general look of panic in many people's eyes! Large groups are creepy when evacuating.... Glad the party was over and we were cleaning up anyway!!

A few months ago, I took my 7 year old godson and his two best friends out for an afternoon and they chose to go to Build-A-Bear. They had a great time together followed by lunch at the food court. So I definitely think your DD and her friends will absolutely enjoy this and it'll be a fun afternoon for them all!

OP, a big upside is that you won't run into this insufferable snob at your fun Build-a-Bear party!

PP, you are ridiculous. My kids go to the mall only when it's time to hit Stride Rite -- or go to a Build a Bear party. Guess what? They LOVE those parties. Not everyone has space to host 12+ kids in their home.

OP, 7 is not too old. I hope your daughter has a wonderful birthday.
