| We have a baby and my wife will mostly stay at home until our son goes to preschool. My wife freelances now very PT. Her job basically takes care of restaurants and clothing etc. She will go back to teaching once my son is 3. I've got offers in Atlanta, San Jose Cali and Bethesda. We're leaning towards San Jose but we have never been to the west cost. We're not originally from the US. We spent our masters and PhD years in the south. We're currently living in DC and have been here 1 year post phd. |
| LOL |
| San Jose will be very expensive. Atlanta probably has the lowest COL on your list, but traffic is very bad, so you have to be careful with location of housing to the job. Is the offer 120k regardless of location? |

Lolololol Go to Atlanta.
Or find something in Dallas. |
| Atlanta |

Atlanta.
San Jose, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are more expensive than Bethesda but even Bethesda is expensive. You need to look at what kind of housing you want, if you need a car, and what neighborhood you're looking for. If you're already in DC, you know how expensive the area is and can get a good idea on Bethesda prices yourself. |
126k in San Jose. Once my wife goes back to work we will be at 175k. |
| The median cost of a home in San Jose is $900,000. Definitely go to Atlanta. |
| Concur with Atlanta. Bethesda works only if you are commuting in from west Virginia or such, which is not cost effective on your salary |
Wait what? |
| Atlanta is your only viable option. |
| Not San Jose. |
| lol op thought cali on 120 was doable |
| Atlanta. It's cheaper compared to the other two cities. It's still a big city, so you won't miss much. Traffic is terrible, but so do San Jose and Besthesda. |

Atlanta! Where you live will depend on where in Atlanta you are working. Just as an example, Peachtree City is a nice area if you are working on the south side of Atlanta. Cumming is great if you are working in North Atlanta.
Good luck, OP! We enjoyed living in the Atlanta area! |
