How does Trump justify not releasing his taxes?

Anonymous
Just wondering how he's gotten away with this. I know it's not required for a PEOTUS to release one's tax records, I just find it surprising he hasn't been called out on it more. And to his supporters, surely you know he's cheating the system...do you care?

He was called on it repeatedly and he told the media and Democrats to go to hell.

He doesn't want to, so he didn't. Obviously, he didn't have to.

So the WP compiled
1) Excuses that Trump and his supporters have given for not releasing tax returns
2) Why IRS audits would not prevent Trump from releasing his tax returns
3) What we would learn from Trump’s tax returns
4) What Trump has said about his tax returns
5) Years Trump paid $0 in federal income taxes ("… and possibly many more ...")
6) What Trump has said about other people’s taxes

OP, apparently your answer is a bit of a moving target.

Basically, he said to the American public, "screw you", and half of the country bent over, and said, "thank you sir, may I have another".

+1

Apparently the quarter of Americans who voted for him mislaid their moral compass when it comes to Trump. He's their secular pope - infallible, can do no wrong no matter how egregious his sins are.

He paid what the law required him to play. That's not cheating.

He took advantage of a loop hole that no longer exists. However since he has not shared his taxes and said that this taxes for the past 10 years are under AUDIT, I am sure that there is likely some sort of shady accounting going on that the IRS is on to... hence the serial audits.

I am imagining this in the voice of Oliver Twist as he sings

http://www.metrolyrics.com/oliver-lyrics-oliver.html

For what you are about to receive
May the lord make you truly thankful.
Amen
Please, Sir, I want some more.

What?!
Please, Sir, I want some more.
More!?

Catch him!
Snatch him!
Hold him!
Scold him!

Pounce him!
Trounce him!
Pick him up and bounce him!

Surprised Hillary wasn't more aggressive about this topic. He's obviously hiding some serious debt and Russian connections.

Exactly!

I don't understand why this is controversial. He uses every legal method to decrease his tax liability even if it means paying no taxes.

I do the very same thing - obviously not in the same income league but I also pay very little in taxes though my income is substantial. I have the benefit of an excellent tax accountant and tax lawyer.

It would be dumb to pay taxes that one can legally avoid.

The topic here is not whether Trump has paid the taxes he owes. The topic is why he will not make his tax returns public, as all presidential candidates have in recent memory.

I wonder why ALL of his taxes these last ten years are under audit!??? It looks like he is an honest broker if the IRS is looking into him that closely

So if you ran for president, would you or would you not release your taxes? Because THAT IS THE QUESTION.

And how do we even know he "paid what the law required him to play"? How? Oh that's right. We don't. BECAUSE HE DIDN'T RELEASE HIS TAXES.
