Low-key way to share Citizen of the Week news with friends and family?

Anonymous
My DC was chosen as Citizen of the Week for her second grade class. Of course we're thrilled, and we want to celebrate accordingly over the holidays, but we don't want to upset any family members whose kids haven't received any honors other than Perfect Attendance, which isn't nearly as selective. Should I do a social media blast and get it over with, or just tell family and friends in person when they ask how DC's year is going?

Well, ain't you just the cleverest thing?

This can't be real?

Definitely call the grandparents, godparents, aunts/uncles. Maybe post on FB (although I'm sure you'll get blasted for it). You are clearly excited and should celebrate it. And your child needs to see that good citizenship is something that you and your family value. If anyone else is jealous or their tender feelings get hurt, well, sheesh, that is their problem not yours. This is a 2nd grade student. I don't think I would send out an e-mail blast to friends but other than that this is good news to share. Be happy!

I believe it's a play on a college acceptance thread.

But funny timing for me, because I just posted on FB about my 6yo getting his school's "character" award for the month!

My 5yo is getting his school's "character award" tomorrow! (It was supposed to be today, but school was cancelled for inclement weather. I must admit, I got a little misty when I found out.) I haven't posted about it yet though.

Congrats to your kid!

Is everyone posting here a troll?

Given the recent larg number of them, I feel like I have no idea.

I'm 22:14. Not a troll. Laughing at/with OP, proud of my kid, not posting either of those on social media or bragging irl.

I was the OP and now I feel like a tool because yes I was (good-naturedly, I promise!) trolling, but everyone's responses are so earnest and sweet, and I'm really happy for those of you whose kids are being recognized for their character! I wish I knew what schools you were in, because I would want my kid in class with yours. (Although fair warning, if my DC actually DID get publicly recognized for good behavior, I might throw a parade.)

(If anyone else wants to jump in here and share their pride in their kid's thoughtful behavior or good citizenship, I say go for it.)

This is the only award I want to see on Facebook. Better than the million of vacation pictures.

I'd buy a one page ad in the NYt

The trolling is out of control on DCUM. It's not even funny or cute anymore and OP, you certainly aren't original. Stop. Just. Stop.
