Hello All:
I'm looking at homes in these school districts. I have two sons. Specifically Olney, Rockville and Howard County area of Laurel? Any input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks |

I think they are all good enough schools that you should focus on other criteria in making your decision. Best neighborhood, best commute to work, friendliest neighbors, favorite house style, etc.
I'm not being flip. I really believe the schools will be equally fine. |
Thanks. I looked at new homes in Wincopia Farms off of Gorman Road in Laurel My hesistation is of Gorman Crossing Elem and Murray Hill Middle School. |

1. Atholton
2. Sherwood 3. Rockville |

I would choose Sherwood over Rockville HS for sure. We are zoned for Rockville and have family zoned for Sherwood.
I know nothing about Atholton, sorry, |
Hmmm. Interesting. Curious. Why would you choose Sherwood over Rockville? Rockville per MD Report Card is 16th ranked in the state, while Sherwood was 39th Thanks |
| All else aside, I would choose Howard County schools over Montgomery County schools in a heartbeat and twice on Sunday. I have experience with both systems. No question. |
| My 1st choice would be Howard County. |
Montgomery County is too overcrowded and too large to adequately serve the needs of its students. Teachers are overworked and burnt out and it will continue to get worse. Howard County is the way to go. |
| Definitely Rockville over Sherwood. |
My kid is zoned for Sherwood and I have had a lot of HS interns where I work (APL) from Atholton. From what I can tell, Atholton is significantly better than Sherwood. I really don't think that highly of MCPS schools. If my kid wasn't so settled in I'd probably move to Howard county. |

Have you considered Reservoir High School?
I was seriously considering looking at the Reservoir area of Laurel but decided that I prefer staying in Montgomery County. The homes there are a lot nicer for the money but don't want to drive 20 to 30 minutes to come back to Montgomery County do things. And then even further to go down to Virginia or DC. Plus the issue of work and jobs. But if the issues you have is with the ES and MS for Atholton, some of the ES and MSs that feed into Reservoir are rated as 10s on Great Schools. Granted take it for what it's worth. Reservoir is only rated as a 7 on Great Schools. But there are a couple of high schools rated as a 7 in Montgomery County that I wouldn't mind my kids going to. And hopefully by then your kids would be on a good track from the elementary and middle schools. |
| My only caution to you is this: HCPSS really believes in redistricting their school pyramids at a greater frequency than MCPS. It's a great district, but that is something to be mindful of. |
| How about River Hill High School? |
| Sherwood has a small town high school feel and spirit. If you are into that. |
