I walk a ton - 4-7 miles a day most days. Danskos are the most comfortable shoes on earth, as far as my slightly wide, well-used feet are concerned. (I don't really care about debating how they look right now - I think they have a certain appeal; I understand this is a minority opinion.)
I am looking for a new pair of closed-toed shoes I can wear when I will be doing some walking - maybe 3 or 4 miles - but would like to have a more attractive option. The things I find comfortable about Danskos include the thickish, stiff sole, and the arch support. I wish that I could slip on a pair of the cute sneakers - Chucks, Vans, etc - that other people seem to like walking in, but they do not feel good on my feet. Those of you who love Danskos (the comfort and feel, not necessarily the look), and walk a lot - have you found any other shoes that give you a reasonably comparable amount of comfort but look just a little cuter? Thank you! |
I actually really like the way some of their boots look. Have you looked at any of those? |
OP again - I have one pair of the boots, actually, and in years past have had others. I like them ok - but I feel like they are not quite cute enough, but at the same time not quite comfortable enough. These are the boots I have - I think the problem is that the toe isn't quite as round as the professionals (a look I don't mind at all), but is also not tapered enough to look great. So - I dunno. I wear them! But I don't love them. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/dansko-maria-bootie-women/3855802?cm_mmc=google-_-productads-_-Women%3AShoes%3ABoots-_-857845&rkg_id=h-25564b0ac8d3034e2fc3328edaebe138_t-1481060713&adpos=1o2&creative=145503081071&device=c&network=g&gclid=Cj0KEQiA4JnCBRDQ5be3nKCPhpwBEiQAjwN1bqRE9T9nHTMJDANLCcU8T9iOdmJ58hWNgunvV_rexGAaArnI8P8HAQ Maybe I should try a different pair, see if those give me what I'm looking for. |
Mephisto shoes are really comfortable, but $. |
I like Danskos (I'm 36 and consider myself pretty fashionable but I've had 2 foot surgeries and a multitude of other foot issues) and as far as comfort goes, I like Frye boots a lot, and Brooks sneakers (although I have custom orthotics--but Brooks feel so much better than any other sneaker). |
Maybe I will give Frye boots a try. Are there any styles in particular you've liked? |
I have three pairs of boots but they're all pretty basic and classic. I have the Engineer and two pairs of the Harness in two different colors/heights. |
Have you looked into Hokas? Sneakers with super thick soles. |
Merrells, zappos has lots of options |
I just got those boots and love them. they might be my most comortable shoe. |
I have Frye's too- I have a short Harness and a tall Veronica. I my go to 'cute' shoe is the Harness. Otherwise I am in sneakers or Danskos. |
Naots
Check out the Barkingdogshoes blog. |
Taos? Naot? Frye? |
Clark's are my go to shoes, although I do have a pair of Dansko booties I like pretty well too. |
