I have a pair of Keen leather boots and a pair of Merrel leather boots and they are both pretty comfortable. My most comfortable pair, though, are my leather rain boots by Bogs. They are heaven for my feet and I get a ton of compliments on them. |
Abeo 3540. Haven't tried the other ones, but I walk miles in them 4 times a week. They don't have much heel though. |
OP here - Thanks for these great suggestions! So much shoe-looking to do now!! |
OP again - and, in the process of googling some of them, I think I discovered the name for the type of sole that Danskos have, that are so comfortable: rocker soles. So I guess for those of us who find Danskos wicked comfy, it's good to have that term so we can look for other shoes with that type of sole. |
Ecco is supposed to be really comfy. I've never tried them myself (too pricey for my budget), but there is a store at Tysons.
Other suggestions = Docs, Merrell, Timberland, Birkenstock, Keen, Rockport, ... and Dansko ![]() |
Adding votes for Clarks, Merrell and Rockport.
I have Romika clogs and they are very comfortable. Also Sanita - almost the same as Dansko. |
Agreed its the rocker sole on the Dansko that makes the clogs and the sandals comfortable. I have yet to find that same comfort in their boots but its been several years since I've been willing to pay the price to find out if their new styles work. If you end up something you like please report back. My next go to shoe is merrill but its hard to find once that a "dressy" and comfortable. |
OP again - and I agree, the boots are generally not as comfortable. Years ago I had a pair of Dansko booties that were made of felt, and looked like little elf shoes, that had the same sole. THOSE were hideous, but so comfy and warm. |
Try Wolky. Have you tried some of the non-clog Danksos? |
Styling question for Dansko wearers. I used to wear Danskos regularly when I was a teacher almost 10 years ago. Then, I wasn't as concerned with being stylish at work and kind of rocked the hipster/teacher nerd look and wore them with tights and sweater dresses.
What kinds of pants do you wear Danskos with now? I don't know if I love them with skinny jeans/leggings and I rarely wear bootcut pants. |
This is the OP (who is also procrastinating on an assignment, obv) - I wear them with skinny jeans. I don't really wear leggings too often, but would wear them if I did. I wear them with skirts and shorts, too, when I am walking my dog. I guess hipster/teacher nerd look is a good description of how I look, too. Aging hipster/teacher nerd. Though I'm not a teacher. What do you wear instead of Danskos now? |
Another one here who loves the rocker sole. I haven't found anythiing else like it. Please do report back if you do. My one problem with Danskos is that I occasionally twist an ankle in them. Nothing serious has come of it, yet, but I feel like it might just be a matter of time before I do some damage to one of my ankles. |
Ecco, Softspots, Fluevogs and Miz Mooz for cute, Clarks, Naot, Sanita, Fly London... |
I wonder if it would be possible to put on rocker soles on other shoes, for example these boots: https://www.amazon.com/Bogs-Kristina-Tall-Waterproof-Boot/dp/B00QMJ4QI0/ref=sr_1_38?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1481402382&sr=1-38&nodeID=679337011&refinements=p_89%3ABogs%2Cp_6%3AATVPDKIKX0DER |
Echoing some others, and some new ones--Ecco, naot, pikolinos, el naturalista, sanitas, fly London. Also gentle souls, keens, ash. Brooks heritage and saucony originals for sneakers. |
