| Trying to save some major $$... and switch to shopping at Aldi as much as possible. What do y'all recommend? What's worth the grocery store/ target/ walmart prices? any advice? |
| I don't buy red meat at Aldi but I do buy fish and frozen chicken breasts. Everything else is as good or superior to regular supermarket brands. I carry two LL Bean canvas totes in the trunk of my car and unload the cart directly into them instead of bagging inside the store. I find its MUCH faster and we're eating better for about 60 percent as much as supermarket. |

If you have you have the receipt from your last trip to your regular grocery store, I would bring that receipt and do some price comparisons.

Pretty much anything that's the equivalent of what I'd buy at another store.
I do love the dark chocolate and frozen salmon, but also salad greens, milk, cheeses, kefir, fruits, etc. |

My thread from this week:

| I'm going to check out the new Silver Spring Aldi this week. They sent a $10 coupon so at least the first trip should be worthwhile. |
|
All of the snack food for our family.
Kids yogurt tubes Chicken thighs (when they are on special they are $.69/lb Broth/stock/canned food Skirt steak, grass fed ground beef, duck (when they have it) Pasta - 2lb boxes for $1.45 Half and half Chicken tenders for kids Salad kits, peppers, avocados I always check what non food special buys they I would buy organic milk but they don't carry whole organic milk Cheese, bagged/shredded & block Frozen shrimp and scallops Frozen pizza Pantry staples - salt, cornstarch, brown sugar, etc Whole bean coffee Chocolate |
|
I have cost compared a lot.
Bananas-and organic are not too much more Baby carrots - also organic isn't too much extra Bag of gala apples In season: blueberries, strawberries, asparagus, oranges Some yogurts are cheaper there, some eksewhere. Eggs Milk (cheaper at Costco, but aldi is closer for my regular shopping) Some of the frozen veggies Canned black beans, pineapple, mandarin oranges, diced tomatoes, tomato paste Salsa, honey, applesauce cups (large applesauce jars too). That's all I can think of without consulting my massive spreadsheet!

| Oh, and whole wheat bread. |
|
18:07 here - I forgot a couple things:
12 pack sparkling water for $2.99 (lime; grapefruit, etc.) They have had la croix occasionally for the lowest price I have ever seen. All of the bread our family eats including naan for $2.49 Crescent rolls, cinnamon rolls, garlic bread, etc. One of the things that I like best about ALDI is the lack of choice for products. I rarely spend more than 20 minutes in there to shop for the week. |
+1 to this. I think some people consider the lack of choice a negative, but I also appreciate not having to consider fifteen options for every item. |
| It takes a few trips to get used to (at least for me). Prices fluctuate on produce. Potatoes can be 1.49 for 10 lbs. Brussell sprouts have been as low as 1.20 a lb. Onions 69 cents for 3lbs. Eggs were 49cents the other day. Milk/sour cream/cottage cheese are all well priced. Canned tomatoes, canned beans etc are great. ALL baking products/spices. They have a limited selection of spices but the ones they have are very inexpensive. |
| I went tonight. For $27 I got: 4 lbs oranges, 2 bags fresh cranberries, bananas, blueberries, mini peppers, seedless cucumber, organic carrot nibs, smoked salmon, chicken breakfast sausages, gf pasta, 2 boxes peanut brittle, a big chocolate santa |
Plus frozen peas |
| Nothing |
