Costco shooter was a cop... and all 3 victims were unarmed

Anonymous
How much do we want to bet this cop was one of those people who just stands in front of the sample cart, taking sample after sample instead of taking just one and moving to the side so other people can have a turn. You know, the ones who go to Costco on a Friday night with their kids and say, “Hey, we don’t have to mKe dinner, we’ll just feed them a bunch of samples and call it a meal.”

As a parent of a child with learning disabilities and an advocate with people with disabilities, this comment is one of the most offensive things I have read. This is dangerous ignorance.

What’s dangerous is thinking someone who is volatile and violent should be allowed everywhere on earth just because “omg, disability inclusion!”

Yeah, the volatile and violent cop should never have been allowed into Costco. The poor French family might still have been intact.

Wegmans must be full of cops!

Is there any update on the video?

Not that I could find, but I read the parents are slowly recovering.

They haven't even charged the shooter yet - they are still "reviewing" whether they will actually do so. (Yes, you read that correctly.) And they are declining media requests to release the video. They are still trying to figure out how to cover the whole thing up. It's disgusting.

Some of the public comments on the LA Times are spot on:

"If the shooter was not a cop he would have been arrested at the time of the shooting and would be looking at a second degree murder charge and two attempted murder charges. This is the type of situation which contributes to the growing divide and distrust between citizens and those whose job is supposedly to protect them."

"the only thing they need to review is weather [sic] to give him the death penalty or life w/o"

"Easy deduction, since the authorities have not publicly released the video means the cop acted unreasonably."

Not really.

indicates we're unlikely to get more until there's legal action, since no one can talk about what they saw.

I think we're going to have to wait to see what Riverside County's DA decides to do.

... which will be nothing after the public interest and outrage dies down. They just need to wait for another mass shooting somewhere else to distract people. That shouldn’t take long in America.

Seems like this particular murderer is untouchable since he’s a cop.

The parents had a news conference yesterday. They say they “pleaded with the fellow shopper not to fire his weapon as their son was not a threat.”

“Russell French, who was shot in his chest and abdomen and lost a kidney, said at a news conference Monday that he "begged" Sanchez not to fire. "I told him we had no guns and my son was sick."

Paola French, who was shot in the back and ended up in a coma, said she "was pleading for my son and our lives."

An attorney for the French family, Dale Galipo, said Monday that Kenneth French, who was nonverbal, might have pushed the officer from behind, but the action wasn't an attack, and the French family quickly moved away.

"It certainly does not justify killing someone," Galipo said, adding that Sanchez should face murder or manslaughter charges. The attorney said he's not sure if there was an altercation before the shooting, and urged authorities to release footage from the scene.

But a judge has ordered that videos remain sealed to the public for a year pending an investigation by prosecutors who are deciding whether to file criminal charges.

All of those people covering up for him should be charged with obstruction of justice.

It is OUTRAGEOUS that they need to "decide" whether to file charges. Courts exist for a reason - let the court decide whether he murdered someone and attempted to murder two others!

How is it even possible that they can decide not to try this case in court? Can a lawyer please explain that to me? Obviously there is enough evidence to make a solid case for a homicide, otherwise they would release the footage and be done with it. How can someone just decide by themselves to not even let the case go to court? Shouldn't that be up to the public and/or the family to insist on their day in court for this?

+1 Unbelievable that a trigger happy cop can shoot 3 people and so far get away with it.

The courts aren’t allowed to investigate. They have to deal with the investigative work brought to them by the police.

Prosecutor’s offices definitely investigate.
