Do a lot of ECNL and GA clubs use their connections to promote their players and help with college placement? Absolutely they do. And will playing in one of those leagues help get you more exposure than if you didn’t? Yep. Certainly a lot of D1 schools will primarily focus their recruiting on those leagues. But to say that playing in college requires a girl to play ECNL or GA is, at best, an uninformed opinion and at worst, just dishonest. There are plenty of players playing in college (admittedly more common at D2 and D3 schools) who don’t play in ECNL or GA. |
Compare placement coming out out GA and ECNL to USYS or NCSL. Sure it's possible, but any parent with a kid on that track is going to push them to a club where the path is straight forward rather than hoping they can be an extreme outlier. |
Oh sure. But that’s a different argument than saying that a girl must play in ECNL or GA in order to play in college which is what the PP said. You could make the same argument about ECNL-RL and DPL vs USYS and NCSL. There’s no question that there’s a hierarchy and generally speaking, that probably holds up to scrutiny. A lot of D3 schools have RL and DPL players on their rosters. And not every part of the US even has ECNL or GA teams (or even RL/DPL) so there are talented kids out there whose only club option might be USYS/EDP. And some kids might not even have a club option at all. If they’re good enough, they’re going to have to work harder to be identified because they don’t have the benefit of club promotion, showcases, etc. but that doesn’t automatically preclude the possibility of them playing in college somewhere. |
If an ECNL team is playing FCV unless its at Jeff Cup, do any of these showcases games, pre/post season tournament results even matter? Good effort with all this data, I think you have some scrimmages included in there too very thorough attaboy... I hope the 1-2 FCV girls my DD team adds is a good fit and they are patient for playing time cause its a different league no matter what anyone says |
| It wasn't mentioned when FCV 08 lost 3-0 to Loudon. I guess the result was forfeited or something after though. |
Contrary to what may say, when it comes to recruiting and showcases, coaches don't care about the match outcome. They're typically not coming to see the entire team, they're focused on certain players that they've connected with and are interested in and how they play. They're there observing those players in how they warm up, interact with teammates, how they are on the sidelines if they're coming off the bench, how they act when coming off the field and onto the bench, etc. |
Yes, they matter for the indiviudal players recruitment prospects not the outcome of the game so again, the point? |
Answering the PP's question on if results of a match in a showcase matters? |
Have been told this by several D1, D2 and D3 college coaches. They’re not there to watch the whole team nor do they care about the outcome of the game. They’re only concerned with the performance, behavior and attitude of the player(s) that they came to watch. |
Agree possible to get certain D2, D3 from outside ECNL/GA. But much easier to get from those platforms. |
If that’s the case then why so much talk here about which ECNL/GA teams are better? As long as you are on any of the teams they will be playing at the same events. |

Parents ego's. |
Well, everybody wants to be on a winning team, right? It’s fun to win and a lot of parents obviously enjoy bragging about how “awesome” their kids team is. This message board definitely attracts those type of people. To your point, which I agree with, if your DC is playing in the Jeff Cup showcase weekend, for example, and coaches from a school that they’re interested in and have communicated that interest to are going to be there, they’re going to be able to see your player regardless of whether their team is playing in the top bracket, the bottom bracket or somewhere in between. Yes, the brackets are often spread out among different fields so that may require some traveling, but the point is, if a college coach is interested in you, they’re not going to say “oh no, your team isn’t in a high enough bracket so I’m not going to bother watching you play.” That’s not simply my opinion but rather my experience. |
