Does anyone know of any volleyball winter camps between Christmas and New Years?

Some of the posts literally named "Central" and still got the "If your DD didn't get an invite/wasn't already on team, don't bother trying out". Hopefully anyone reading through now knows to check and make sure everyone's talking about same part of Metro.

Their high level team name is the Metro Travel team (like so many other clubs that have their 1, 2, 3, Blue, Orange, etc. teams). The Metro Travel team plays at the highest division, Open, at tournaments. Their other team names are Metro North, East, South, Central - not sure of the hierarchy - but they play regionally and at lower divisions at tournaments: Club, Patriot, American, USA - all dependent on the tournament.

This should probably be auto-pasted into any new threads about Volleyball here LOL! Thank you though, it's absolutely not anything that is clear to families & players newer to club/travel volleyball.

Anyone else awaiting info on first practice dates and times? We're already getting team e-mails about hotel reservations (stay-to-play or otherwise reserved blocks) but no practice info has been posted/shared yet. I think some other clubs may have started practices this week (according to their websites).

Yup, same boat

Opposite situation. DDs club team has already started practicing this week, but no info on travel and hotel which is making us nervous!

Can anyone recommend a top-notch Libero/DS coach for private lessons? DD is super short for VB, all she can do is developing great serve receive/passing skills. U16. Thank you

Objectively, Paramount teams are known to play ridiculously good defense, so one of their main coaches would be my top choice if I were looking for a coach to teach those skills.

Nemanja of GoVolley is also good (but based in Winchester)

+1 Nemanja. Former pro Libero for Serbia! Our favorite coach. Worth the drive.

metro regional teams fund the travel teams. the regional teams are marginal at best. It's just a revenue stream Sylvia created a few years ago.

Yep! That's why their Travel team costs are so much cheaper than the other national teams in the area.

Categorically false. The Metro regional teams have been around since long before Silvia bought the club from the Goldbergs. They also have much cheaper fees (website says $2250 for most age groups, less for the younger ones) than most of the numbers that get posted on here. Metro North teams frequently play in Open level at tournaments and go to AAU Nationals if not USAV. The other regions are frequently competitive at the Club level in big tournaments.

+1. That is the sole purpose of the regional teams. It’s not wrong; she is entitled to make as much money as she can with her business and she has earned that right. The only thing that irks me is when the club director tries to brand the regional teams like they are anything other than a moneymaker. Metro in general is deceptive with their marketing. Silvia likes to say that Metro was founded in 2015, which is factually incorrect. Rather, the truth is she BOUGHT the club today in 2015 from the legendary Barry Goldberg (God rest his soul). Metro was already the top club in the area when she purchased it from Barry in 2015, as Barry had started the club in 2000.

Parents need to compare apples to apples. Metro has a club fee, but each away tournament Metro will collect extra $$ for coach stipend, hotel, travel. Player travel/flight/hotel are on the family. Also, Metro uniform is extra $$ not included in the club fee (although they change every other year). VA Elite club fee includes uniform, flights/hotel, coaches stipend/hotel/travel. Paramount club fee includes uniform, coaches stipend/hotel/travel but player/flights/hotels are on your own. So don't just look at the "club fee", know what is included so you can have a fair comparison.

They aren’t really cheaper, they’re actually probably more expensive. Trust me, I know from experience. If you look closely on their website about what is and isn’t included in their fees, you’ll quickly see why. You’ll notice that uniforms/gear are not included (this typically runs you another $600), and you’ll also see that the coaches’ hotel and travel expenses are not included in the fees. That is the big one. So essentially for every tournament that requires a coach to stay in a hotel or fly, every player on the team will be hit with a $500-700 fee per tournament. Metro obviously plays a very competitive schedule with a ton of travel, so now you can start to extrapolate how much that will end up costing you by the end of the season. Most other clubs in our area until coaches’ hotel and travel arrangements in the listed fee
