I await news about how this is the fault of Democrats and also how this is good news for the GOP this fall.

Just saying it again because it’s awesome: Donald Trump’s dumpy hotel home was searched in a lawful warrant by the FBI.

So this whole kerfuffle is because DJT didn't return all the documents he was supposed to return? But he's a victim?

There's no innocent explanation for the documents being there, either.

Wow.

The law that Trump signed is 5 years per document in a federal prison.

But my. God.

How can the slightly more sane of you republicans look at yourselves and say - yup - when the FBI was investigating Hillary’s email, that was correct to do and in fact we are sure she should be locked up for her ‘crimes’.

But a few years later, AFTER 4 YEARS OF A TRUMP PRESIDENCY AND TRUMP APPOINTING THE HEAD OF FBI WHO CONTINUES TO THIS DAY, the FBI is now a corrupt wing of the Democratic Party?

Get ahold of yourselves

Well, the head of the FBI was a trump appointee. And the judges on the order was another conservative appointee. So… Can't blame the left on this. Trump is and always has been a grifter and a crook.

Oh, FFS. Did the FBI do a pre-dawn raid to search for those emails that Hillary wiped from her server? For that matter, did they do a pre-dawn, long guns drawn raid to even find the server?
Yes - there are still way too many agents at the FBI who are corrupt to the core. Wray has done nothing to rein in the rogue agents.
This raid was so unwarranted and will come back to bite the Dems in the butt. Mark my words.

Wooah, wooah wooah moron. So your position is that there was no search warrant at all? That a bunch of rogue FBI agents just took it upon themselves to do this.

You are beyond being helped.

I think he's saying a corrupt head of the FBI drew up a warrant to be signed by a corrupt judge. Just like they did with the FISAs

The head of the FBI and the Judge who signed the order were both Trump appointees.

Trump lies about everything. He’s in desperate financial straits. This is another opportunity to raise money and get himself back on the front page.

Why should Trump be above the law when it comes to handling classified material?

He didn't just "not return them" - he should not have had possession of them in the first place,

Think about the North Korea love letters. My guess is that those are some of the documents he kept.

They were, the Post reported that in February.

He put a padlock on the door with all the top secret documents!
Sure the government asked for the papers back, but that was just the start of the negotiations!

As someone mentioned subpoenas are for civil cases.

Also the big deal is:
1. He did not give these dozen boxes back with the other 15 in February
2. Or when the chief of counterintelligence and export came to his residence in June
3. He has had and continues to have close relationships with our country’s adversaries (aok with having former kgb in the oval)
4. He has a long history of doing anything for power and money - by all accounts he is a compromised person
5. The documents are not his, they are the federal government’s
6. The notion that these docs were somehow just random and harmless is ridiculous bc the chief of counterintelligence and export doesn’t show up to retrieve White House menus.

Yeah that post was meant to be read as sarcasm. Apparently I didn’t nail the proper tone. Carry on.

Oops! I'm sorry! Hard to tell with all the crazy posts on here, actually telling everyone it isn't a big deal. My bad!

Pp here. He shouldn’t be. But it’s possible that the retrieval will be the end of it.

Not sarcastic PP and i did get the sarcasm, your post was still an excellent summary of what’s going on.

Why is there still so much paper these days? Is a digital trail too prone to interception? I'm just baffled how there's boxes and boxes and boxes of paper intel these days.

Trump never sent an email before

I thought his reason for not using email was in order to ensure there was no paper trail, though.

I guess he probably thought it would be easier to hide stolen paper documents than electronic ones, if I had to guess. He must have really thought he was going to make some money with these documents.

Also:

Man am I tired of worrying what's going to get his base all riled up this time. I think they were even boiling mad over that old meme of the dog wearing pants.

If the warrant is so ridiculous why hasn’t Trump shared it? He’s the only one who can do so.

He’s not going to share it, and his team seems to think that DOJ can? They can’t.

Given the very high bar to punish a former President, and given institutional caution on the part of the FBI and DOJ (except that fascinating moment when Comey declared Clinton was still under investigation right before the 2016 election - shows you whose side they're REALLY on!)...

... Nothing will come of this. The papers have been retrieved. There will be no slap on any wrists.

But way to take the sails out of the White House's only important achievement (the climate change bill) and way to prime Trump's base for a possible Trump '24 run!

So the FBI must have found some good stuff because they seem to have settled on the "FBI planted evidence" (aka "the OJ") defense.

Also, if super duper Top Secret "code-word" documents are involved then any prosecution will be largely hidden from the public. Which, of course, feeds the Deep State narrative.
