But this is just closing down the school... But without even any virtual school in its place! |
I'm sure the parent was just explaining why they weren't bringing *their* child to school. |

See, the number of states reporting changed from 43 to 45 in the past two week (8/12 to 8/26), ergo that increase isn't necessarily an increase. |
but but but muh scary numbers! |
These numbers show the death rate among children has plummeted. At the beginning of the pandemic, 0.06 percent of kids who had COVID died. As of last week, 0.01 percent of kids with COVID died. That's an 83 percent decline. |
Not to quibble, but it also looks like you have two more states reporting child data in the past two weeks that may affect those cumulative totals. |
there's more than 50 million school age kids in america |
I suck at math so honest question - doesn’t that mean that 1 in 100 kids with covid die??? |
No, that would be 1% of kids with COVID died. This means that 1 in 10,000 kids with COVID died. |
It feels like it would make WAY more sense to require the potentially exposed student to quarantine at home for 2 weeks, rather than closing school for everyone because a parent (someone who's not even in the school building) was exposed. |
No. 1 in 100 = 1 percent 1 in 10,000 = 0.01 percent |
Thanks all! |
| I do not understand the justification for this. As a former SSMA family I can't say I'm surprised but this makes zero sense. If this is your approach why would you ever even open school? |
