Minorities in lacrosse?

Maybe you should try being more like Junior.

Asian parents don’t care about athletic scholarships, at least I do not, because most Asian parents like me have a lot of money to care about athletic scholarships. There are only 12.6 scholarships for D1 lacrosse for a roster of 48, not that much. Asian parents want their kids to play tennis or golf because they are sports of the wealthy and the barrier of entry is much higher than lacrosse. You eliminate a lot of people from participating through cost.

How many people can afford 100k initiation fee, 10k/year annual fee, and 10k/yr for food & drink at a country club. Most Asian people I know can easily afford that.

He could care less what race they are. This thread is so silly.

Says the person executing the humble brag about Junior. This thread is about why lacrosse still fails to attract minorities and lower income people
in general. It’s an important question. Even though lax is a great sport it will always be second tier unless it finds a way to attract a largely rich, white demographic.

You consider it "bragging" for somebody to say that one of his son's favorite player is of a different race? You find that unusual? You are as pointless as this whole discussion. Go away!

So much racism. How can you speak for “most” Asians. Your elitist attitude comes from you income not your race. Why is race even needed in this discussion. Lacrosse should seek income diversity not racial equity. Not a lot of lacrosse in rural areas. Not one team based in Langley Park when UMD may be ground zero in the lacrosse world. The fact that many tennis players are Asian has zero to do with diversity and inclusion.

No it isn’t. It is the product of the deranged, obsessive Lefty determination to make Everything About Race Because Race Is the Most Important Thing And Racism Is The Worst Thing Ever.

Your son is 33% racist, and you think that’s okay? 🤔

Well…. the lacrosse community, which is not left, cares and knows it’s a problem.

Your remark is self-refuting. If they care about race and racism, then they are indeed left-wing.

And finally we get to the truth. Race is not an issue in lacrosse, or anyplace else. “Racism” is just politics. Can we please end this ridiculous discussion and go back to meaningful lacrosse topics like MadLax ungrateful quitters and the Hawks holdbacks?

People are simply products of their environment and typically follow whatever path their folks put them on. Rec lax is like $75.00 or less anywhere outside of the DMV and they even provide loaner equipment. To suggest that ANY human being is not welcome to pick up a stick and play Lacrosse is absolutely ignorant.

Like me, my kid is a mixed race mutt. Various segments of anglo heritage mixed with some latino and native American.

He enjoys playing Lacrose and Football. Do you think for a second that he doesn't play Golf or Tennis or ultimate frisbee because he feels that he won't be accepted. No, he just has no interest in those sports because 1. His mother and I never played Tennis or Golf and subsequently haven't introduced our kids to those sports.

As another example. Tiger Woods father introduced his son to Golf at 5 years old. I highly doubt he chose Golf because he thought his half black, half asian child would be shunned by the Lacrosse world. If the sports world was truly racist towards minorities and mixed raced individuals, the NBA and NFL as two examples would cease to exist.

Another poster mentioned Myles Jones. Apparently he was a very good basketball player and had the skill to play in college. He enjoyed playing Lacrosse more than basketball and ultimately ended up playing lacrosse at Duke. Was there something inherently racist or biased in that?

Jim Brown played Lacrosse at Cuse 50+ years ago!!

This country is a melting pot and the only thing holding anyone back from doing anything is themselves or the ignorant, self loathing and hateful morons raising them.

But golf and tennis are very expensive to participate than lacrosse, right? Why are there so many Asians on the HS golf and tennis teams?

“ conservative never-trumpers” is a contradiction in terms.

never-trumpers are left-wing, and them caring about race is yet more proof of this.
