“That’s why we’re talking about things that may not be a classical mask. We are pretty good at making things that spontaneously become effective because of your own creativity.” - Dr. Fauci |
+1. The fatality rate in kids under 18 is 100x greater for RSV. Now that you have discovered the virus fighting power of cloth, you will mask for RSV forever right? Or at least until there’s a vaccine? https://www.medscape.com/answers/300455-107817/what-is-the-mortality-and-morbidity-of-respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-pneumonia#:~:text=In%20adults%2C%20RSV%20pneumonia%20is,severity%20of%20underlying%20immune%20suppression. |
I mean, I routinely teach my kids that stupid rules are still stupid, even if they are from the "authorities." I also teach them to speak truth to power. These things go hand in hand |
My 5 year old with sensory issues tolerates the Etsy shop PartyCasa’s gauze masks! Sorry, having trouble posting the link here |
| Shut up< OP. |
Right. Only your wishes and wants count. Who cares about anyone else? Great parenting. |
The benefit is to protect them. |
NOPE. I have compassion for immunocompromised people for whom it doesn't work. But those idiots that won't get a vaccine? They can stuff it. |
Agreed. And it is not anyone else’s responsibility to protect those who choose not to protect themselves. Most especially not the responsibility of our children. |
You sound so angry. It actually is great parenting to tell your kid "Mom and Dad care more about you, your comfort, and your safety, than some random hypochondriac paranoid person in the community" So we will not cave to their irrational demands. You do know that you are the outlier here, right? Go to just about any camp or playground or ballfield and see how many kids are wearing masks |
Masks don’t protect them. And staying home has a high cost to their mental and physical health. |

My 5-year-old has now worn a mask for 20% of their life, and it's become a totally normal, no-big-deal thing. They're also eagle-eyed at pointing out improperly worn masks; in their school/camp peer group, reminding other kids with slipping masks is a normal thing.
Comfort does matter but it's not a matter of expense. Material matters but it's primarily a matter of fit, and the way that the loops sit on ears/head. My kid likes the Mandala masks with the soft nose wire, even though they don't have the kid-friendly designs that they prefer. (My kid is something of a clothes horse and picks out matching outfits down to the socks, mask, and even underwear.) |
Oh god, that’s so sad. |
Masks will be optional at school next year. Since it’s no big deal, PP’s kid can keep wearing one. |
I swear you people think the masks are torture devices instead of little pieces of fabric. |
