A tent is not a permanent structure. |
The NPS certainly can - and should - remove the “campers” from Rock Creek Park and Parkway. |
You're saying the NPS can do this, based on what? |

It would be interesting to see some real statistics on the homeless in DC overtime. I'm sure it's hard to compare, because the definitions and therefore who gets counted can change, but it is a place to start.
I have lived in DC since 1990 in upper NW (CT avenue corridor) the entire time. I've worked near Dupont, Federal Triangle, and Metro Center. Obviously I went out all over the city when I was young. Overall DC feels safer (and crime statistics attest to that). IMO "visible" homelessness does not seem to be worse. Though it certainly ebbs and flows depending on City policy. I'd like to see the data. |
Unregulated camping in the national parks is illegal and not compatible with the NPS’ mission of maintaining and preserving the parks. |
DC made mistakes in the vaccine roll-out but prioritizing front line workers at the onset, regardless of residency, was not one of them. As of July 4th, approx. 24% of the doses administered in DC went to non-residents. For DC residents who received a vaccine dose, 83% of those doses were administered in DC. |
Maybe the best short term solution is to allow short term homeless camping in a designated, patrolled compound if exchange forces free day labor to clean up the litter and graffiti that seems to plague the park especially this year (perhaps exacerbated by the aforementioned “campers”). |
+1 This is very well stated. And DC has a lot of supports and programs for the invisible homeless. The visible we do not have good supports or solutions for. |
Legalize panhandling and trespassing, problem solved. |
There no doubt are a few “woke” DC Council members who are contemplating doing just that.

Just describe the information contained in your links. Is that so hard to do? I you understood it, it would not be a problem. |
Do you put such conditions on other people? Fast food/casual restaurants can only exist if there are patrols to pick up waste containers from them? Or is it only not OK to have negative effects from homeless people? No suburban-style SFH homes unless there's a patrol person to follow their angsty teenager around to clean up the graffiti they tag around homeless encampments? You have some pretty nasty stereotypes that you should really work on before making suggestions. |
Provide funding to hire cleaning crews to pick up trash and human waste from 6 am to 8 pm every day. Bring a truck with water to power-wash urine on solid surface. Or organize high school student volunteers to do the job. |
One solution to address the spike is fir DC to offer people living on the street a bus ticket to destinations at least 1000 miles away and a prepaid cash card for $1000 that only works in ATMs at a distance of ar least 1000 mikes from DC. |

E st area is a disaster.
So many tents and they have now spread into neighboring parks where GW students used to hang out and play soccer. There is trash everywhere. Also trash being the on onto to roadway from tents surrounding E st overpass area. Clean this up. It’s a hazard. Shame on DC. What a dump this city is becoming… |
