Do DC parents still blame teacher unions for everything?

don't forget our worthless city council.

I feel truly blessed to not have parents like this. I'm on maternity leave so my kids had to to virtual for these last 4 weeks but even when we were virtual last year I cannot imagine them blaming me like this.

As if I have the power to change the districts mind. The WTU contract has been expired for years, IMPACT is still very much intact, and DCPS still doesn't support it's teachers. Those are things 99% of teachers really care about. If we are so powerful even after 10 years why hasn't it changed?

What makes the pandemic so special that you all really think the WTU has that much power? We lost our president a while ago, if we were 'strong' DCPS could have easily said, 'Ok last 6 weeks IPL for everyone.'

But we all must blame someone. A public school teacher seems like an easy target. Women love to tear each other down after all.

Teachers refused to show up for work. They effectively went on an illegal strike. Even as daycares, private schools and public schools almost everywhere else were open. This isn't that complicated.

This line strikes me as odd. They are at work, it's just not optimal. I was working when I taught online and I was working in person, IPL obviously just yields better results.
And? So teachers have to hold up the contract while DCPS doesn't? Is that why my class is over capacity illegally every year?

No, it's not complicated but you are making it so. I wonder if you have such a low opinion of teachers in this area why you wouldn't just exit? I would not want my child to be taught by someone I hate or who hates me.

I’m continuously amazed that parents on this board continue to bring up that single day work stoppage like it was some big, terrible event. It was basically just like another Wednesday! If DL is so bad and you and your kids hate it so much, who cares if teachers skipped one day of online instruction this year?

PP is a troll. PP doesn’t even have kids in DCPS. Just some angry person who feels the need to constantly lash out at people. Clearly, PP has some issues.

Collective Bargaining for Public Employees should be outlawed. It's antidemocratic.

Republicans are a bigger problem. Labor unions have done a lot for our society. You kid isn’t grabbing bobbins in a factory anymore. You work 5 days a week because of labor unions.

Anyone on here not have a need to vilify/blame ANYONE in the whole world?

So you’re saying Wednesdays this year were a complete loss of 20% of instructional time anyway so why would this matter? Hmm. I’d have to agree with you but it’s not an argument that makes anyone look good.

I can’t believe this, but I agree with you. The interests of a private organization not under the control of an elected official should not have such a big role in public policy.

Do you honestly not understand the impact of that strike? It wasn’t about the lost day. It was about keeping kids out of school- which is continuing now.

Go ahead and keep believing that we’re not actual DCPS parents. Do you realize there are many very angry parents right now this very second with kids still stuck in DL? While we’ve been vaccinated for months and bars are open to full capacity?

Exactly. Uncomplicated. Our DCPS is open to all full-time this quarter. But have neighbors around the block whose 5, 6 and 7 year olds are still stuck at home. Their schools are not even a mile away from ours, but the demographics are quite different, admins, teachers and families. What a rotten situation for families left out in the cold. As a group, the teachers have been real jerks, along with Bowser and the council members. We're moving to VA this summer. Yes, it hasn't been much better out there, but at least they got everybody back for hybrid late in the winter.

Republicans and MAGA hold zero sway over DCPS reopening decisions. Trump is a jerk is not an excuse for poor planning and poor communication in this school system. Learning loss is not some Fox News fever dream. If there are DCPS parents who have reconsidered their baseline support of unions over this past year, it’s probably because of their personal experience and not because they switched from MSNBC to Newsmax.

The bolded. She kept children from getting an education because she drove the anti-science hyperbole that opening schools would be a death sentence to teachers. Than in something that even a movie writer couldn’t make up, she actually killed a teacher due to her behavior.
She had plenty of power.

Saying that dcps teachers shouldn’t have collective bargaining is anti black. Just say you’re a white Supremacist fascist and go.
