First Baptist Church (Dupont Circle) - recent experiences?

The First Baptist Church Child Development Center is a wonderful place. You would be lucky to get a placement there. The Director is committed and extremely competent. The teachers are dedicated and loving. My son is now 3 years old and has been at the FBC-CDC since he was 4.5 months old. He has been a Teddy Bear, a Duckling, a Tiger, and now a Cub. There is such a wonderful sense of community between the parents at the center, and the teachers/administration. I highly recommend it.

And for the record, he loved the "movie day" when he was a Tiger. It was only once a month, and they usually had pizza. I don't think that they had Chinese food, but I would have been fine with that. Its always good for toddlers to be exposed to new foods and expand their palates.

Your child will be safe and loved at FBC-CDC. Especially if you just relax a little and not worry about an occasional movie day and Chinese food.

My DD attended FBC and she loved movie day-it was infrequent enough that it felt like a big treat to her. I loved it too because I didn't have to make lunch twice a month!

They no longer do movie day and it was once a month and pizza only. The one and two year old rooms at First Baptist are phenomenal. Caring and creative teachers, a huge gym, friendly parents and reasonable tuition. What's not to love?

Could not agree more! I cried when my oldest left for kindergarten. My kids have been so happy there -- it is a very special place. The older kids do have movie day once a month but it rotates so each kid can bring in a movie. My son thought that was a special treat and loved being able to pick out a movie or tv show for his friends.

Plug for the preschool program too: Ms. Lucila and Carolyn run a great program! The ratios are SO low during the school year. And it is pretty reasonable, especially compared to private school preschool.

I had an awful experience in the teddy bear room December 2017. The teachers were inattentive to the needs of my 4 month old. They refused to nap him on his schedule. The room is soley for sleep trained 10 - 12 month olds. They have fixed naptimes.

Needless to say after 1 month of suffering, I decided to take my 4 month old out. It broke our hearts.

What type of suffering??

Had a great experience at First Baptist with both my kids. One baby was in the teddy bear room, and the other was in the panda room. Both stayed till PreK3 started. Teachers were warm, very knowledgeable and flexible if I needed something specific to happen. The rooms do have developmentally-specific set schedules which babies and one and two-year-olds learn to adapt to, at least in my experience. Most of the parents I know have been happy there.

PP from 12:01. Can you explain more? We have heard good things about First Baptist.

They refuse to call me back. I have left 5 messages over about a month. No return call. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

One of the teachers I'm the teddy bear room came from the prek room and did not have experience with infants. She tried to get my 4 month old to nap according to their schedule which had only 2 naps a day. Poor baby was awake for 5-7 hours several times and came back like a zombie. ?

This was my experience as well several years ago. I don’t think that’s acceptable for any place.

Current family. We've been very happy there. I had the same experience re: no one calling me back, and then went in person and was able to speak to the director and we got a spot when it was available. Sadly, we learned yesterday that the Church has decided it's time to tear down the building (upkeep on the old building is very expensive) so the daycare is closing as of the end of June 2020 (i.e. 14 months from now). It's really sad!

I imagine they would still take new kids in that timeframe, with acknowledgement that it's only a short-term option.
