What are your favorite CTCLs (and similar) and why?

+1 It is a hidden gem. The degree to which faculty members are available to students is remarkable. They also have the stated goal of instilling certain prosocial values in their students/community, which I really appreciate (since it complements that way I raised my child before handing her off to them). They are really strong in science. Lots of traditions. The setting is pretty. The town, not much at all. They have handled COVID extremely well.

It is a little oasis in rural PA that has served my DC well. She has regained her confidence there, which was shaken more than I realized from the experience of attending a rather cutthroat high school in the DMV. She has been awarded two national awards while there and seems well on her way to continued success.

That’s great to hear about your daughter - well done !

I've wondered if Muhlenberg is similar to the CTCL schools.

I have one at a CTCL and my youngest visited Muhlenberg twice. I want to say yes and would suggest to other parents that they consider Muhlenberg. Bonus - they offered great financial aid.

Kid was really happy about having a fantastic backup plan and seriously considered the backup as possible first choice.

But, in the end, he went to the name school. That says it all.

What does it say? That kids with choices often pick the higher ranked school? I don't think this is ther brilliant point you think it is.

Thanks for confirming that kids (and parents) who choose CTCL typically don't have better alternatives.

Which one will let my B/C student major in computer science?

Our DC had an incredible experience at St. Olaf College. In addition to the performing arts, for which it is acclaimed, it has an impressive track record regarding study abroad and PhD. attainment.

The whole ctcl label is just marketing for smaller schools that are often overlooked. I don’t doubt that some offer a great education but the label is pretty meaningless.

Thank you! People act like CTCL means Ivy League. They're just a bunch of no name schools with two things in common: they're small and they're desperate to market themselves.

And the rest of us are still wondering what your point is.

There is literally no one who acts like CTCL means Ivy League.
