What's proven? That people with Southern accents are treated as if they are stupid and that people form baseless prejudices against them simply because of their accent OR that they actually are stupid. The countless studies prove what? Maybe instead of telling me to calm down you can write a better explanation.

I stand 100% by what I said, so maybe take a hard look in the mirror. All the "open minded" "progressive" "love everyone" "everyone is welcome" blue voting people seem to think it's perfectly find to make assumptions and statements about southern accents. Why? Do you use the word redneck? hillbilly? hick? If so, why is that ok?

“All y’all” is silly, as “y’all” is a second-person plural form of address. It’s extremely useful, as English is otherwise lacking a second-person plural, and much more elegant than “youse guys” or whatever alternative is used in the North. It’s also gender neutral.

That a southern accent is perceived as less intelligent is a cultural legacy of the south having been defeated in a massive military war. Look to any country that had a civil war in the last 250 years in which the sides were regionally organized, and you’ll find negative stereotypes about the customs or traits of people who come from the defeated region. Interesting tidbit, just throwing it in here.

Interesting but I’m not convinced. A high end Southern accent doesn’t sound unintelligent (think Designing Women). But a backwoods Appalachian accent does, in the same way that a South Boston accent or a. Bronx accent does. It’s stereotyping, yes, and it’s often rude and incorrect. But I think it’s less about the north versus south divide than about a class issue and correlation between education levels and people with certain strong regional accents.

Move lots of different places and stay for a few months each place you go. Your accent will change.
