E-mail says students and staff can't log in from abroad

Ok, your kid should be in school not traveling. So, how is this an issue. If you child is on vacation, let the school know.

If schools want you to have a secure way to log in, just say that. For any student /teacher working remotely cant imagine why they care or feel they have the right to care where you are temporarily living UNLESS you have a job that requires you to be able to physically appear at a moments notice (ie come in for a physical meeting etc.)

What was Baltimore moms motivation? Thought you were shirking for the day? Weird and very East Germany!

Because some people moved during the pandemic ?

We know families whose children log onto DCPS from other countries, where kids stay with extended family who can provide better childcare/supervision for DL than their parents (including single moms) can in DC.

The families are Mexico or the Caribbean. Not an easy time to help kids who can't attend school due to WFU obstruction. DCPS should leave these families alone.

No they should do exactly what they are doing. You don’t get to hang out on the beach then complain you can’t login. Suck it up

Sure you do. Maybe they aren’t on a beach, maybe they are at grandparents isolating with them, maybe the grandparents live in a beach town. Who cares where the kids are doing distance learning from?

And sure some of us are on the beach. Why not be? I’ve got two kayaks sitting at the bottom of the stairs, a hundred feet from the waters edge. My breakfast is papaya, my sons some yogurt and berries. We are going for a quick swim after breakfast to get some wiggles out, and then back to the house for school. Lunch is whatever the local fisherman caught, assuming I see them today, and if not, it’ll be some pasta. This evening we’ll take the kayaks out to the coral head and do a little snorkeling. He’s been wanting to see a sleeping king parrot, so I promised him we’d try it one evening and see if we get lucky. Otherwise, it’s build sand castles, go for a swim, or build a fort with his friend down the beach after school. I’ve got to figure out why my underwater light doesn’t work, so that’s my afternoon project. That and maybe a whiskey.

Try it sometime. Life doesn’t have to be YouTube, isolation and Chinese take out. I promise you’ll enjoy yourself.

I feel like this board is ripe for parody.

Still no problems logging in this week. Maybe a little sand in the keyboard but easy to fix.

We never got an email so no idea when this is supposed to be implemented but not yet!

Glad to hear you can still log into DL. You are doing a wonderful job of parenting and getting through this with some fun. All those haters are just jealous. Typiing this from my holiday house on the east coast beaches.

I can’t imagine being so privileged and out of touch that I would be mad enough to post about not being able to login for school from freakin Hawaii. You suck OP.

If you move out of DC, you can't send your kids to a DC public school. That's always been true. It's just that pre-pandemic, it was only people moving to MD and VA who tried.

Sure if you change residency and *move*.

I’m not reading 5 pages but the email didn’t say you can’t, just that you need to inform your school so they can ensure access. Our principal literally said just let us know and we’ll put in the request for the rest of the school year. No a big deal, not even a deal at all. It’s like “let us know if your phone number changed so we can update it.” Stop trying to find something to be outraged about.

I know kids studying abroad in Egypt and Spain. They attend online classes at designated times. I understand the security issue via canvas, bbut otherwise the kids are doing the work and doing well. Dcps needs to get it together and reopen the schools.
