Will Peloton revive my lumpy, dumpy, middle-aged mom bod?

I do running on the Tread+ and do weights with the trainers on the app. I see significant tightening in certain places.

1) you can’t cycle out of eating garbage so you need to clean up your diet but you don’t have to starve yourself.
2) you need to work hard (e.g. internals and hills, tabata etc). Peloton instructors are awesome and the classes are fun so you want to take them even if they are hard if that makes sense.
3) resistance training (2-3 strength sessions a week, boot camp classes etc).

You've summed it really well. My diet was never garbage, but I added 2 (Emma - whew!) and 3 with the help of the peloton app and I'm finally losing weight. Also it lifts my mental health more than I expected.

It says something that people thing Jenn Sherman has a mom bod. Maybe compared to Robin or Ally. Jenn is in great shape, far from a mom bod, and I wish I had her figure. Plus, she's beautiful, put together, and plays great music.

I didn’t know this person and just looked her up. She’s 50 and looks amazing. WTF are some people smoking?

Opinions vary. To me, she looks someone's mom that just rolled off the couch to lazily give a spin class. She's the opposite of motivating.

I don't like Jenn Sherman but I love CDE, 49 and winning Masters bike races. i will say that I tried Jenn and CDE because their bodies looked so much closer to mine then the other coaches. They are both in amazing shape but they do not have the same body as Ally or Emma or Livia or Tunde or Robin. Part of it is simply different body types and some of it is age differences.

Elizabeth Hurley, age 55, looks amazing. Jenn Sherman looks like she just walked out of a Costco.

If you're making money in part on the basis of your body looking particularly lean and/or strong looking, whether it's by selling supplements or by being a Peloton instructor, the appeal of using drugs to assist you with that is high. I don't think any of the instructors have bodies that are obviously juiced, but the really lean ones with visible abs have a body fat percentage that's certainly a lot easier to attain with some help. Particularly if you have to sit at it year round. The rest of that body type you can get with some weight training (not even that much) and really restricting calories. But significant ab definition is tough naturally, because your body will want to drop the muscle before it drops the fat.

+1 BodyPump (Les Mills on Demand or at a gym) is amazing.

It was — at the gym. The equipment is so expensive it is not feasible at home.

Believe it or not, Tunde used to be obese. There are interviews online where she talks about her weight loss journey. Obviously, most people don’t have her athletic ability, but it’s still really inspiring.

Not based on what I’ve see of similar moms who do 00s of rides.

I just signed up for the free trial of the app and I found this super confusing. On the web version (which is the only way I can connect to my TV), there's no "programs" area. You can google it and get to a blog page that describes it, but there's no links. It wasn't until I saw that I have to go the app that I understood where to get these programs. Then even there, it's a pain in the ass to figure out which Upper Body Strength workout you're supposed to do on a given day. Seriously, are you supposed to be like "Hmm, the one where the stiill thumbnail image is this Andy dude is wearing a white shirt and Lenny Kravitz is one of the songs (b/c there are multiple 30 min. Upper Body Strength by a guy named Andy) ? How do you translate the mobile app version to the web version? It's just all that straightforward, to the person who said "just Google it."

Ok, I totally agree that this is annoying (I’m the OP to suggest these programs). What I do is bookmark them on my phone app and then filter on bookmarked strength classes on the TV. Btw (and this doesn’t solve this problem but is useful to know) there are apps for the Fire TV and possibly the Roku. Very convenient although they still don’t have the programs!

Same PP and thanks again! We do have a Roku and the bookmarked filter thing is a usable workaround!

If you want arms like hers, bench press and do chinups and pullups. I don't get this thing of women doing cardio to look like instructors who got their bodies lifting weights.

You can find barbell sets that are relatively inexpensive and work well for it. It’s certainly not the same as a live class, for sure, but it’s better than nothing.

Agreed, you need to do the strength workouts in addition to the bike to see real change. I completed both Crush Your Core and Total Strength and I recommend them both

What are those?

You know, if you are serious about working out, you'd probably be serious enough to just Google them.

You're an asshole.
