Cardio does not make you fat. Have you ever worked out a day in your life? |
This. Holy shit. |
Does a rower not do a number on your knees over time? |
How would this work? They’re not weight-bearing. Other than swimming it is the lowest-impact thing you could do with knees. Do you think just bending your knees repeatedly will harm them? |
Pre-covid I tried a peloton over a few months at my gym. It was fine but didn’t do a ton for me. I ended up buying the soul cycle and have already lost 5 pounds in a month. I know that’s not a lot but I can tell I’m gaining muscle and finally beating my mom tummy. I enjoy the music more on it and the advanced classes have choreography that really does target my core. With peloton I couldn’t find any classes that did that on the bike |
I love our Peloton. I have a bad knee (I'm only 40) and the Peloton is doesn't aggravate it. I feel like I get a really great cardio workout in and I definitely gain some muscles in my legs. I lost 10 pounds (from 153 to 143) doing Peloton a few days a week AND not drinking/snacking at night.
But as others said, it's not a holy grail. You will need to incorporate strength and stretching off the bike. |
Peloton excels at providing a motivating community where other products don’t. I’m sure the retort will be only losers can’t exercise on their own. So be it. Peloton is the only thing that’s kept me consistently exercising. |
Peloton isn’t magic. You need to find exercise you enjoy and can stick with. That might be Peloton or something else. And you won’t lose weight without changing your diet. |
All the people on this thread saying you can’t lose weight, and keep it off, without dieting have clearly never gone from couch-ish to running 30 miles a week. Same for the claim that you can’t change your body within weights.
My flat strong core and slender upper body disagree with you, as does my 30 pound weight loss. Admittedly it’s not easy to run like this but I’m so tired of the smug certitude of HIIT and “lift heavy!” crowd. You guys might be able to bench press me, but you can’t catch me |
It’s up to you to do the work. |
True story |
My 40 year old sister has one and she's addicted to it, and now she's almost as thin as me after 3 kids (I'm 30, with no kids). But we all have good genes though. |
Peloton is a company that sells a bike, treadmill, and exercise app. The only thing that is going to change your body is your choices in the kitchen and to exercise or not. Peloton is one tool, it might work for you for a variety of reasons, it might not. I have had success with exercising using the Peloton bike and app. I have also changed my diet and nutrition. I could very well of had success using the Peloton app and not the bike or a different bike. I had success when I was going to the gym regularly using the elliptical and taking classes. Generally speaking, I am in a good place when I actually choose to move and find ways to motivate myself.
For the record, the gym cost more then the Peloton and the Peloton membership combined, we had a family membership, and the bike is in my basement so it is far more convenient to use. Find what motivates you, it might not be a $2,000 piece of equipment but it might just be a $2,000 piece of equipment. Only you know how to motivate yourself. |
Also, if you only do cardio, you'll just got a smaller version of the same body. No change in shape, just size.
If you want to enhance your shape, you have to weight train. |
The biggest advantage of a Peloton is that it's fun, so I keep coming back. The Bike Bootcamp classes are great, and pilates - the instructors are fun and certainly no downside.
I was using our rower with a rowing class app, but it really aggravated some neck issues that I didn't even know I have. My husband prefers it - check out CityRow if you think you might like rowing. |
