The email seemed to describe more than playdates -- although playdates first -- but yeah, nothing like a plan for A/B day 2x/wk type of hybrid or any real classroom instruction, just more opportunities for students to come to school. |
they are unaccountable. the chancellor can be fired and the mayor can lose and election, so they have to stand up against teachers. charters get the $$ and face no consequences for staying closed. |
I have no clue what the school has in mind. But it doesn't seem to be very much at all. I am super disappointed. |
I’m PP above. That is incorrect. I attended the meeting and it’s 100 students for hybrid. They currently have 60 or so students for CARES and plan on expanding that too. We got offered a spot for hybrid and our family is not disadvantaged at all. |
+100. We don’t attend but have friends who do, they are indeed offering hybrid soon (if they haven’t already). |
Exactly. And what metrics define “safe”? |
Oh this is interesting. I read it that they would be doing hybrid but not worrying about starting with young grades only, rather they will pursue the goal of bringing older kids too if staffing permits. While they are sorting out the groupings we will have the meet ups with teachers which I think are great and overdue. |
It's clear they are planning way, way less than a lot of other schools. If they were going to do as much as other schools are doing, we would know by now. I think if the director were not retiring, this would be different. Feels like she is running out the clock. |
I would be shocked if you got anything substantial out of ITS. They are really dragging their feet and making every excuse they can find. Personally I would be fine with two days in person and three days asynchronous (or for preschoolers, three days of nothing) but I understand other parents feel differently. |
I actually feel like last night's email pulled back the curtain on plans they are making on multiple fronts: expanded learning hubs; in person meet ups to foster connection; and in person learning at the school for all students not just starting with the youngest. TBD how many days of that will be offered based on interest and mapping to staff capacity. |
It did pull back the curtain, but with no firm commitments. And what is behind the curtain isn't very much. Oh wow, an outdoor meetup, what a stunning feat of organizational competence. |

I keep feeling like our charter is a disappointment as far as in-person offerings like small group tutoring, cares classes, IEP services in-person, returning in small classes. But then as an employer maybe they are better, no one being forced back to work before vaccines. I certainly don't want a teacher or staff with my child all day that has been put against a wall about working or losing employment. We all know how fun it is to work with people that don't want to be doing those jobs let alone a teacher or caregiver is angry, anxious or phoning it in.
With the new versions of covid and the lack of knowledge about their spread vrs current health protocols seems like bad timing. We should have been in reduced class sizes from August- November and DL until spring. One can only hope if we are in this mess in the fall they might try to go back earlier but who knows |
Starting on February 22! Counting down the minutes lol. |
What email?? Can you post? |
Which grade and which campus? We are at MV8 and haven’t heard anything about spots yet |
