DCPS will fill the space with OOB kids. Will these kids then have a right to Lafayette on the main campus? Hello again to over crowding. Then will all of these kids have access to Deal and Wilson which are bursting at seams? Either short-sighted or part of a bigger plan to zone Lafayette out of Deal, Wilson? Lafayette parents should be concerned.

This is obviously part of the larger plan to zone Lafayette and Shepherd out of Deal/Wilson and into the Wells/Coolidge feed.

Deal parent here, IB for Shepherd. Wells doesn't have room for Lafayette, and the Deal Principal said Deal isn't overcrowded. This is a tinfoil hat conspiracy, and to me it looks like you're just looking for reasons to make sure OOB kids don't get access to Lafayette because you're racist and elitist.

In five years, Deal could be over its capacity by an alarming 51 percent. It was 100 percent at capacity in 2018-19 (including the trailers). So the "actually, Deal isn't overcrowded" gaslighting needs to stop, because it isn't true.

Deal isn't overcrowded now. Enough with forecasts from the Ward3Net parents who have been trying to get Shepherd and Bancroft kicked out of the feeder pattern because they're racist. Every BS cover story you come up with just points right back to the fact that your crazy group of Lafayette parents are racists.

We’re going to be paying for the pandemic for years, including in terms of education, not to mention health. How is guaranteed Pre-K for Lafayette families a priority in this environment? It just doesn’t add up,

DCPS doesn't need to buy a building to justify moving a school to a new feeder pattern. It's not outlandish for DCPS to buy a building as part of a long-term plan and offer it to Lafayette for PK for 3 years, and if DCPS wants to rezone Lafayette then it will have nothing to do with whether or not Lafayette takes the PK building. This conspiracy that DCPS has a plan to slowly move Lafayette east of the park piece by piece is insane.

The problem isn't now (though it's not something that can be shrugged off, as you so easily do). The problem is five years from now, 10 years from now. The problem is we've been kicking this can down the road for far too long now, and continuing to do that is no longer an option.

And your claim that those numbers are made-up "forecasts" is ridiculous. They come from DCPS.

It’s not even that far. It’s literally closer to drive there than to Deal from Lafayette. What is this physical allergy people have against Rock Creek park when you have a straight road with no street lights to get there?

Right so they need to call it like it is. Stop talking about location when it’s faster to get there than their beloved Deal. I still think this is a bad idea though. They need to cut PK at Lafayette (or only have 1 class with priority to SPED) and make this an all city early Ed center with no feeder rights to any elementary.

If you really believe that Deal will be 51% over capacity, then Lafayette has to be cut from the feeder pattern anyway. In that case, the best bet is to open up Lafayette to as many OOB kids as possible to ensure a larger MS and HS of well prepared kids.

But then there's no guarantee that Lafayette families would get into this PK program. If you're suggesting that they get a preference, then you're supporting the racists who want to keep OOB kids out of their school.

PK is not a required grade.

PK is not a required grade.

Plus first tier would be IB SPED, then SPED. I assume there are 14 IB SPED students to file the one PK class anyhow

someone suggested making it PK3-PK4 so parents would only have one switch. I think that’s the best idea. they said they didn’t know about that at the meeting.

I recall this would be a possibility if there wasn't enough interest in PK4. Probably something to consider down the road, not next year.

I don’t see DCPS giving Lafayette Prek3.
Anonymous
Giving Lafayette PK3 would be absurd! Families that can afford to pay 1M for a single family home do NOT need Government subsidized childcare. Put that money w here it is needed in other parts of the city.
