WNT v Holland

Keep in mind Rapinoe is the captain
Keep in mind klinsmann cut Donavan in similar circumstances after a year off
Keep in mind the price paid by klinsmann in part for that
Rapinoe will make Donavan look like an obedient All for the team guy

Lloyd is interesting as she can still score but not much else, I can’t see them takin her but who knows

A lot of this is going to be name recognition and sponsor related team politics. After the Olympics they will clean house for the next cycle of WC

That's the problem with this team. They've become a celebrity team and not one about performance. It's a lot of what pushes the pay dispute. Rapinoe basically is taking a year off with the assumption that she is going to have a spot at almost 36. That's insane. Lloyd doesn't have that entitlement but she also hasn't played and she will be almost 39. Give a lot of credit to those that went overseas out of their comfort zone. More should play there regularly.

The team selection should be interesting as will the chemistry. They've seemed to relish being larger than a team, but that brings a lot of baggage.

Why do people keep putting Rapinio up as an elite player? In her prime she was a roll player at best and that was 5-6 years ago. In the World Cup her teammates had to work harder because she was on the field. She was a turnover machine, out of position and slow. The one game the coaches thought would be competitive they sat her. She is/was the same way in the NWSL.

I think she does a great job marketing herself. Let’s face it in the US, the Women World Cup is an even like the Olympics. The vast majority of people who watch it know nothing about soccer or the players. The coverage/analysis is very lite and alway positive with lots of human interest stories. Rapinoe’s pink hair made her stand out and she cashed in. Great for her but she was never a top payer.

The Olympics roster is 18. So two goalies bring it down to 16. The teams core is Dunn(d/f), Ertz(m/d), Lavelle(m/f), and Sam Mewis(m/d). Bring 2 younger and 3 older players Macario(m), Sophia Smith(f), Morgan(f), Press(f) and Sauerbrunn(d). Seven players left and you have to fill based on positions. You will need defenders. You have to worry about injuries and really do not have the luxury of rostering an older forward who has not player another position.

For people that understand soccer, it is known Rapinoe is not one of the best all-around players. She's great on service and set pieces. She's not great 1 v 1 or playing defense. She earned a place in the team over the years. But taking more than a year off in an Olympics year should be a no-go for someone limited at 36. How much you bet she makes it?

That would be a shame. It’s a small roster and it is easy to put 23 players ahead of her. I am hoping the Andonovski will move on from a few players and be a lot less conservative in terms of style of play. It is time to play a more modern game and some of the players do not fit.

Oh I guess you are the end all and be all of soccer. We all miss you on the sideline yelling “send it”. I love the know nothings parents who know everything there is to know about soccer because they watched their kid plays the equivalent of middle school or high school soccer.

A lot of the angst here is just too bad.
Italy can play Park the bus and win with it - and coaches players and fans can love it or hate it.
Klopp can play his gegenpress and the same follows in Love it or hate it
USWNT can win right now in many styles, it’s okay to disagree about preferred styles of play now and in the future.

What sports and history tell us though is clear: adapt or lose eventually.

Anyone who believes an XI with Rapinoe, Morgan, Krieger, ertz, Lloyd et al will win the WC as a heavy favorite in 2023 better be prepared for another outcome. That’s an old team. Worse Let’s just say that team loses LaVelle and another 1 or
2 to injury. That leaves a lot of young first time World Cup
players mixed with a lot of older players. Is Rapinoe still the captain of that team? The same Rapinoe who trashed her prior coach? And does that team get caught adapting style of play in 2022 late in the game instead of now when it makes sense ? Time will tell not these posts
Tiki taka or tic tock goes the clock are both obstacles at the moment.
Hopefully the us overcomes and continues to prevail

To be mad, bro. Our un-mordern game just beat the European Champions, twice. In fact, it beat everyone in the world. How about you sit back and let the professionals figure it out.

The World Cup team is going to look very different. Lloyd, Krieger and Rapinoe aren't going to be involved in 2023. Sauerbrunn and O'Hara, too. They're barely hanging on for the Olympics. Morgan would be 34 so the next couple years will determine if she still is on top of her game.

Ertz will be fine. There's plenty of other talent in the pipeline but the U.S. will be favored. It's going to be much harder without the experience that helped pull them through last year. You could see England and France really were close but the U.S. had that small edge to make the right plays at the right time. England converts that PK and maybe it is a different story.

There may be young talent, but it is not equally distributed among positions. Name me a young striker, who is as good as Morgan or a winger, who is as creative and skilled as Heath? Some positions are not as deep as others.

FYI, during the game, Montgomery County, MD was mentioned. Some of you might not like what they said but we thought it was great. Always good when we can get a shout out on National Television!!!

Go to the 77:20 Minute Mark of the Game Clock or you can find it at the 1:20:45 mark of the video.

They said the area is a producer of soccer talent for women based on a player being on the USWNT that pretty much applies generically to a lot of places.

Yeah, they meant the DMV in general.
