Yes we are looking at that area as well as the south run neighborhood but are open to other suggestions in the area. Thanks!

Isn't it mostly 80s and 90s plus new builds by Clifton?
. None of that strikes me as old.

I’ve been following because we are also considering a move out to this area. Anyone know what the commute into DC would be? We are in Falls Church now that takes about 45-50 mins with traffic at 7:30am. Am I looking at an hour long commute or more like 1hr 20 mins?

Thanks.

Used to be sought after locale during the 80s. Still a nice place to live (if you are retired or working from home) but don’t expect any sort of price appreciation for decades. Same for Clifton and surrounding areas.

A lot of the info on this thread is off. Fairfax station proper (outside of Crosspointe) isn't anywhere near Lorton, so I'm not sure where people get the idea that you'd be next to the dump/water treatment/old prison towers. And the homes are either well-maintained from the 80s and 90s or they are new builds, so not sure where the "old homes" posts come from.

In fact the advertised directions to the new mcmansions subdivisions avoided going past the prison even though it took people miles out of the way on back roads.

The gloomy Lorton prison building grounds and watch towers are still there in Lorton aka Fairfax Station some have been converted to art studios.

You don't know Fairfax Station. The houses around the prison are new. What the rest of us have called FFX Station is well away from that.

Those familiar with school demographics know this is code language, and only thinly veiled at that.

OP here. Please enlighten me. I'm not arguing, I actually want to know what you mean. Like I said, I am not from here and not familiar with schools here. Not a whole lot of elementary schools where I grew up and they were all the same in terms of demographics and performance, nothing like here.

South County HS is newer than Lake Braddock SS and Robinson SS, and single-family homes in the SoCo district are, on average, also newer and more expensive as well. When posters steer people away from SoCo or its feeders to Robinson or Lake Braddock, it more often than not isn’t because the strip malls in Burke are beautiful, but because SoCo has more Black kids (22%) than Lake Braddock (7%) or Robinson (6%).

People can claim they had something else in mind, but they deserve to be called out.

I agree. The racism in Burke is well known. When I lived in Burke Center there were no black families in the single family homes.

+1 This poster blabbing about the prison and dump and water treatment clearly isn't familiar with the area. FFX station is very far northwest of that on the parkway.

It really depends on which part of Fairfax Station and which part of DC. I live very close to the town of Clifton, and I take the Burke VRE to my office in L'Enfant Plaza. My commute is 65 minutes, door-to-door.

Anonymous wrote:Some of Fairfax Station out toward Clifton is pretty rural. You might have well water and septic there, so be aware when you’re looking at homes if you don’t want that. Some is more of a standard suburb, but more of a “bedroom community” feel vs. other areas that have some shopping centers, office buildings, etc. The big neighborhood in Fairfax Station (the non-rural part) is Crosspointe. It’s very nice with newer and larger homes than you’ll find in many areas of Fairfax County. It’s in the process of turning over from older homeowners and empty nesters to new, younger families. I live near there and always thought it was nice, but it’s becoming pretty desirable now and homes go fast and are now out of our price range sadly!

South Run is also in Fairfax Station. It’s a traditional neighborhood and not on 5 acre lots but is a little older and has more trees and privacy than Crosspointe. For school purposes, South Run is Lake Braddock vs South County for Crosspointe. Both are very nice neighborhoods.

Op here. South Run looks great for us—I should point out we don’t need truly rural, just more space, trees, etc.

One thing—I see very few houses for sale or recently sold there. Am I correct that houses there don’t come up very often and we should watch it carefully?

Houses don't come up often. They sell within days. There are two coming on the market soon. I live nearby.

I live in Fairfax Station near South Run. My commute to L st is 1.5 hours if I am driving alone. It is awful. If I carpool with a neighbor sometimes, it is one hour.
