Too late, they all just quit. Good luck educating your kids on your own.

Then just quit already. Until you stop taking those paychecks you're just bluffing here.

4/20 teachers at my elementary school retired early or resigned this summer. We have only filled one of the positions. The other three will be filled with long terms subs, if any can be found willing to sign up to do distance teaching/hybrid this year for $20 an hour.

1/4 of the teachers where my friend in Georgia works have taken retirement or resigned. They are having trouble filling the spots, and that's even with lowering expectations and standards for applicants.

I thought that generally nannies made more than substitute teachers, who are notoriously underpaid. Is that not typical?

I live in Fairfax County, where short term subs earn $14.50 an hour.

If you sub for the same teacher for 11 days in a row, that becomes a long term assignment, and then you will be paid $20.50/hour.

Yes, indeed, you can earn more money as a nanny, which is why during a pandemic, it is very hard to get older, retired teachers to pick up jobs as in person subs.

The only way most public schools can open following guidelines would allow kids to be in school once or possibly twice a week. Schools aren’t going to open like normal at all this year.

For one, it means he can/will break strikes like Reagan did. We can only hope he does.

That's not how it works, for many, many reasons.

How so? It's voluntary guidance.

They aren't in the same position as air traffic controllers.

Air traffic controllers are employees of the federal government. The president has no jurisdiction over public or private school teachers, who are employees of their school district or private school.

I am hopeful it means that they will be some of the first to be able to get vaccinated once we have EUA for the first COVID vaccine. Then we can get back to school.

I think some people may need to go back to school and review the meaning of "voluntary."
