EmpowerEd DC Petition - Explore outdoor learning this fall

No public school district with more than 500 kids is going to innovate. Schools aren’t bastions of innovation.

But, our charter schools very well can. I am interested in pushing this idea to the Montessori and maybe Expeditionary schools which have space. Maybe CMI? Those not afraid of the outdoors and with good access to it.

CMI would be a great place to try this. But I would hope they would start to say it to families soon. People still have a choice over summer and there are some people even at CMI who prefer a more traditional environment. That’s not me I would love to see outdoor classes.

I’m confused. How can DGS replace windows I don’t have? Unless you mean after I use a sledgehammer to make my own windows they will come and fix it up with some panes?

It took a year of requests and finally a call to the mayor’s office to fix the heat and AC in one building. You expect DGS to come out for my windows that don’t have handles to open? And when they do open 6 inches?

I think the poster thought everyone would say how amazing this idea was and would rally around them saying how worthless teachers are cause they don’t want to have class in RFK. Now that they see how stupid it sounds they have disappeared

There are only about 70,000 kids in school in he District every day.

That is a smaller crowd than attends a Big 10 Football game every weekend.
We have civil engineers in this town.

we are not talking a full city evacuation of 700,000 people, we talking about 60K-70 kids / 20, 000 of which are off your books as they are in DC Privates

Are students in outside spaces still restricted to 10 or 12? If so, it doesn't matter how much outdoor space is used if each teacher is restricted to 10 or 12 kids. We don't have enough teachers to cover much smaller groups of kids, regardless of where they are.

I don’t need an anti-petition. This idea is so dumb no one will even consider it. Besides why can’t I see who signed it? Super fishy
